How to Dim iMac Screen Beyond Defaults?

For starters, I don't have a hackintosh, just an early 2008, 24-inch iMac running El Capitan 10.11.6
I know this is a forum for hackintoshes, but I haven't found any other place on the web that seems to have the knowledge necessary to help me, so please hear me out.

Somebody vaguely mentioned achieving brightness levels lower than the defaults allow by finding your LCD model and altering the corresponding hex values for the brightness increments set by the brightness keys in AppleBacklight.kext on this thread. The post I'm talking about starts with "Discovered A better solution by modifying system kexts" (so that you can find it.)

Disclaimer: I have no idea what I'm doing, but I'm willing to do what it takes to learn how to carry out the steps to get my backlight dimmed. I just don't know where else to start but here.

However, when I open the info.plist file in AppleBacklight.kext, I'm greeted with a lot of strings that I don't understand, and no hex values whatsoever.

My panel model is LM240WU2-SLB2
If anybody can help me modify the brightness values for my backlight, it'd be greatly appreciated. Preferably I'd be able to gain full control of it, going all the way to completely off. I'm aware PWM may cause some problems, but I'm okay with that.

I came here for help because nobody else on the net seems to talk about AppleBacklight.kext
The only thing I could find that was even in the ballpark of what I'm looking for was RehabMan's AppleBacklightFixup.kext
I figure he or someone else here would have the knowledge necessary to help me.

I'm not sure if this is helpful, but I've dumped the entire "Extensions" folder full of kexts from my mac in
this google drive folder just in case.
Thanks in advance for any help.
