how to backup kext im using? how can i upgrade osx? why does my proc not show all cores? +other ques

i have an asus u46e-bal7 laptop i have a few questions, someone please help.

everything works 100% except i had to swap out the internal wireless card. I had to play around with keyboard / mouse kext and i forgot what i used.
two finger scroll/gestures don't work. Also disable trackpad while typing doesn't work. It's hard to type without my mouse clicking in my text.

questions
1:how can i backup my kext im using so incase i want to reinstall/upgrade?
2:is it safe to do osx system updates?
3:if i want to go to 10.10 or newer whats the best way for me ?
4:why does my intel i7 quad only show 2 cores?
5:how can i fix my mouse/trackpad issues mentioned above

Keep good notes on which kexts you used, where you got them, and how they are to be installed.

2:is it safe to do osx system updates?

Did you use Clover? A correctly setup system using Clover can generally be updated with little hassle.

It really depends on how you accomplished the various patching tasks...

From where did you download OS X?

Installing any version of OS X is essentially the same.

What CPU is it?

Mobo: manufacturer/model + bootloader(Clover/Chameleon/Chimera)
CPU: detailed CPU model + motherboard chipset
Graphics: all graphics devices + laptop internal screen resolution

For example, typical Ivy laptop:
Mobo: HP ProBook 4540s (Clover)
CPU: i5-3320m/HM76
Graphics: HD4000, 1366x768

Use CPU-Z on Windows to find CPU (Core iX-xxx) and motherboard chipset (HMxx), and graphics capabilities. For a laptop, these details are important and affect critical installation procedures.

Note: When specifying your bootloader, if using Clover legacy, please be sure to specify "Clover legacy"). Specifying "Clover" will be assumed as "Clover UEFI"
