High Sierra Random Freezing

@n0ir, please update your profile (account details) with your Motherboard, CPU and iGPU or Graphics Card(s).
If you have a prebuilt computer enter make and model instead of motherboard.

How did you change from iMac14,2 to MacPro5,1? I have that pulled up in Clover Configurator (mount EFI, open config, and go to SMBIOS) but if I manually change the Product Name field to MacPro5,1 I get an infinite reboot cycle. What am I doing wrong? My best guess has to do with the Bios Version not matching (IM142.88Z.0123.B00.1708211454 looks like it's specific to iMac14,2 based on the first chunk?) but I don't have the slightest idea how to mess with that.

My machine has been getting multiple random freezes a day every single day for months and I haven't been able to fix it.

I believe I now have High Sierra stable on my Series 5 motherboard. There were multiple causes of my instability and I am writing up an install guide for this MB. In short the fixes are:
  • Select MacPro5,1 as the system, as iMac14,2 results in High Sierra trying to perform power management this MB/CPU is not capable of.
  • Apply the ICH10 fix for Random freeze HDD led on as the P55 chipset has an ICH10 embedded in it.
  • Audit your programs, especially any autostart ones, for any that are not being updated for Mojave. I had one (DragThing) that resulted in an occasional Pinwheel of Death.
  • Apply the [Solved] High Sierra - need CMOS reset after sleep to fix the CMOS corruption on sleep fix.
The P55 used to be simpler to run as a Hackintosh, but with the above fixes I believe it is stable.

The High Sierra OS is much more sensitive to the matchup of the System definition (e.x. MacPro5,1 or iMac14,2) and the physical CPU/MB hardware than prior macOS versions. In my case I’m running a P55 with a Series 5 Nehalem architecture which matches up with the MacPro5,1. You are running a Z68X with a Series 6 Sandy Bridge CPU which is closer the iMac14,2 than the MacPro. In poking around Everymac the Sandy Bridge iMac definition is iMac12,1 which is probably what I would try. Beyond that, test the ICH10 fix I linked to. Make one change at a time and test the stability.

I am experiencing similar problems - freezing up after some time with no activity.
My random freezes seem to be connected to some iCloud services - I suspect Photos.
If I log on as Guest, everything works stable.
If I create a new user on my machine, but do NOT specify an AppleID, my machine is stable. After turning on the Photo app, with all accounts etc, the crashes start happening.

I am currently at Mojave 10.14.2 - have had the problems since High Sierra.

Baktus, my suggestion is to research your Lenovo and determine the not just the CPU but also the supporting chipset especially the underlying disk and network. As I stated before, the High Sierra OS is much more sensitive to the matchup of the System definition (e.x. MacPro5,1 or iMac14,2) and the physical CPU/MB hardware than prior macOS versions. Know not just that your machine is an i7, but which i7 microarchitecture (there have been 9 so far) it is and ensure that the system you select in Clover Configurator matches up with it. Laptops, because they contain more customized hardware, are even more temperamental as hackintoshes.

Thanks, I have done that, and it matches a MacBook Pro 8,1.

Are anyone else experiencing the strange effect that everything works fine when logged in as Guest (runs for days on end, vs. just a few hours when logged in to my proper account)?
What could be the reason for that?

Hi People,

I am also experiencing very annoying random crashes. It mostly (but not strictly) happens if I stress the computer. Especially graphics-intense projects like Cinema4D and Octane in combination with Youtube is very freeze-prone.

I have disabled Speedstep and Turbo in an attempt to help it, but unfortunately it did not help (although I do think it got a little better.) here is an error log:

(running macOS High Sierra 10.13.6 with the iMac Pro system def.
