Hi everyone,
Since High Sierra I experience a very strange problem with my gpu performance. As a video editor I mainly use fcpx for editing and Davinci Resolve for coloring. When I installed 10.13.1 I noticed that sometimes in fcpx I was having drop frames in video playback while I was editing.I tried to clear free some ram but I couldn't fix it until I make a reboot. After reboot everything was working fine but again sometime it may show up the same issue. It was not clear when it will happen... sometimes in the beginning, sometimes after a while. At first I thought that it may be the nvidia graphics driver that was causing the problem.Last week I installed 10.13.2 with the new nvidia driver and again I experience the same problem. Also installed the new version of fcpx 10.4 which came out 2 days ago and the problem remains.I found also that Davinci Resolve was having the same issue.Sometimes it was playing 50 fps of my video clips just fine and sometimes it was having huge drop performance and the playback was having 5-10 fps barely. To clarify that it was not a software problem I tried to run a few times World of Warcraft (i dont have time but when I do, this is the game that will entertain me so much! :) Again sometimes I had 50-60fps everything in high settings and sometimes the performance was falling to 15-20 fps.Everytime in the same place in the game just to be sure that its not something else.FInally I ran Geekbanch 4 cpu/gpu test and Im sharing with you the results.

Also my system is:

Intel Core i7 4790k
Corsair 16GB Ram 2400mhz 11-13-13-31
Asus Z97-P
Asus GTX770 2GB OC edition
Samsung EVO 250GB SSD
Dell U2413 (Dispplayport connection)
Dell U2417H (HDMI connection)

The whole installation went through the tonymac official guide as always (Hackintosher since Snow Leopard)
Trim is disabled ofc.
File system is APFS.
SMBios is iMac 14.2
Also to mention that during installation I had everytime to uncheck disable_nv1 to be able to boot and finish installation.
To be sure that its not a disk problem I also installed 10.13.2 to a 2nd ssd to see if the problem persists.. I was having the same issue again.
Any help guys would me much appreciated..! Im using this rig mainly for my work and this leaves me behind from finishing my projects.

Today when I was editing in fcpx, performance went down again, so I thought to run a geekbench for my gtx770 to check the score and compare it with the previews one. Rsults show that propably the issue is not connected with my gpu.I wonder if I had make the installation in the beginning with hfs instead of apfs. Is there any chance the new file system may be the reason for all of these issues?

After the lag issue I forgot to mention that everything is working with lagging... not only fcpx, Resolve, WOW, etc... even the scrolling on pages using safari.
BUT I found a temporary fix that is very strange. If i change the resolution to one of my dual monitor setup for a second and then get back to normal resolution, the lag is gone immediately! Its very annoying ofc to have everytime to do the same thing but nonetheless its a temporary solution...
Plz plz if anyone knows what is causing this lag on everything, plz spread your advice!

UPDATE:
After I installed Multibeast 10.2 and add to setup from graphics configuration tab:
"NVIDIA Web Drivers Boot Flag" and
"NVIDIA Graphics Fixup"
...the problem has been solved as it seems!!!

Hi,

Did you solve the problem?

I had the same problem, changed the graphic card to a Radeon and still had the problem...! Super crazy!

It seems like moving from iMac to Mac Pro smbios solved the problem!

Now I just built a new hack with coffee lake cpu and had to use iMac 18,3... It happened once so far... But I had the same problem again! Lags after some time, reboot, everything ok...

Hi Brixx,
Unfortunately the problem still remains... and after 10.13.3 the lags are much worse especially on fcpx.I can't work and Im really desperate.I changed also SMBios from iMac14.2 to iMac15.1 but without luck.Today I updated to 10.13.3 supplemental update to see if there is a chance to get things better. Also I think in my case that my dual monitor setup is connected with this issue.

I have a problem with hanging workspaces. There is a lot of lag when switching that I have turned off animations because it is very annoying when you are switching a lot.
Hi arvinsim,
There is not yet native support for Z370 systems. In my case I have serious problems when I do video editing.
There are a few guides on this forum that have success stories with Z370 setups.

Hello,
Anyone solved this pb ? It seems I have same issues .. the system's slowing down after a while, especially during a FCPX session or Motion. When it happens, I have dropped frames and the mouse get glitchy. I need to reboot to get normal perf but not for long.

I'm running 10.13.1

If someone has a solution..... thanks a lot.
