Do nvidia drivers from nvidia enable HDMI audio in Mac Pro 1,1 running Mavericks or Mountain Lion ?
( note my Mac pro is currently running Mavericks soon to upgrade to Yosemite )
One Mac Pro has GT 430 and the other has a GT 630.
I also have a GT 640.

Web searches give conflicting or incomplete info.

One claims audio over DVI when used with HDMI/DVI adapter.

No. Issue is not Nvidia, macpro1,1 does not have hda-gfx injection in its ACPI tables. An HDMI audio kext is available on a MacRumors thread for early MacPros. Nvidia cards do support HDMI audio on all ports w/adapters and the noted injection.

Thanks Toleda I have been working with kext but it takes some tweaking.
It was very helpful the info on cables. I will no longer go plug and cable crazy thanks to you.
The kext thread was not clear on this.
I recently got a Mac Pro 4,1 from UI surplus and it will need the treatment also to get sound out on HDMI.
Sorry for late reply.
