Thanks for the tip. In the beginning I experimented a little bit with the settings since I'm new to clover but I could and should disable them. Will try NullCPUPowerManagement but at the moment I'm actually pretty happy with performance and system stability so I don't want to change too much

Hi
I see that you have the sam MB+CPU as me and have installed the Intel power gadget. Can you give me the link from where you have downloaded it because all I have found in the net is only for 2-nd generation of CPUs?

Also have you managed to solve the power management issue on the x99+5820k? Do you have speed step or at lease power consumption reduced in idle to reasonable levels?

Thanks

P.S. Sorry for the spam into the thread but I can not send you PM (you does not accept them)

Hello.
Im working on a x99m-gaming 5 / I7-5820k / Clover build. So I installed the generic usb kext that seems to be enabling speedstep. I did confirm it throttling down to 1.2ghz form the steady 3.4,3.6ghz. The only downside. It kills by pcie bcm94360cd Bluetooth. Any idea of what I can do to stop that? I tried installing the generic usb kext in S/L/E and Clover kext file. Same results. No usb for the Bluetooth.

Hi
I see that you have succeeded in enabling speed step for the 5820k. Can you give me more information how? I am using Clover. From where you get this "generic USB kext". Have used any SSDT (can you give me a link)?
Thanks

You can install the Intel power gadget by using pacifist.

As for power consumption: at the moment I'm running at 3,4 Ghz all the time but I saw it dropping to 1,2 Ghz once, don't know what was different back then...

I've gotta say, if you don't need USB 3.0, disabling XHCI in the BIOS for now seems to be a great choice. The only oddity I've experienced is while I am tying (for example, this happened as I was typing this) on occasion, my keyboard will stop giving inputs for about 1 second, then be fine. Certainly nothing compared to the unfixable key spam I was getting with the GenericUSBXHCI kext. Speed stepping works, (or something that resembles speed stepping) but with near perfect core distribution, what appears to be turbo, and overall much better power consumption.

If you've yet to give it a try, make sure you install NullCPUPowerManagement.kext. I'm also still using Manic Harmon1c's SSDT, although whether or not that's impacting much is uncertain for me. I don't want to try without it, because if it IS doing work, I don't want to break anything.

EDIT: (3/1)

Disabling XHCI in the BIOS also fixes the horrendous VMWare performance under OS X.

I had a problem with using Clover to boot.
It was giving me an error about OsxAptioFixDrv: AllocateRelocBlock(): can not allocate relocation block
I was using a PCIe SSD drive with two storage blocks (not the boot drive).

When I took it out the system would boot fine.
I then tried moving it from the PCIE_2 slot to PCIE_3 - now it works.

Just wanted to share that.

This doesn't help anyone except maybe with buying decisions but I'll post this anyway... I like smaller cases and haven't built ATX for years. X99 mATX choices are very limited and my favorite manufacturer doesn't offer the product, yet this (GA-X99M-GAMING 5) is one Bad-Ass OCing board...

@Kudvernay.
Awesome Benchmarks!
Im running The Same GA-X99M-GAMING 5 as you. But only with a I7 5820k.
I used the Link to HWsensor you provided me at insanelymac.
But I'm having issue with the mainbroad temp, reading crazy high numbers. As well as only one cpu fan showing up and not sowing any rpm change. Which i have three connected to the Broad.
Maybe I'm installing it incorrect. Im using Clover to boot.
I tried to run the installer package. Only drive temps show up. So i used Pacifist to remove the kext files and installed them in clovers kext folder. But still only getting 1 Fan instead of the 3 connected to the main broad. Any ideas to why?

I haven't had any issues at all, but also believe the less patched kexts, the better so will try BIOS setting.

However, being a new Clover user, how do I undo the USB Kext? Just delete it from the Clover folder and reboot?

Update - per this post:

http://www.tonymacx86.com/lion-desk...te-uefi-motherboards-xhci-mode-explained.html

Disabling XHCI disables USB 3.0 mode so that's not good for me since I use my hack mainly for photo editing and copy tons of raws files from my 3.0 card reader.

Turns out that I already have XHCI disabled in BIOS and was running the USBXHCI kext at the same time. Reading the description in BIOS it seems "enabled" option is for OSes that don't have a native XHCI driver. Therefore it makes sense to disable this if you use the kext. If you don't use the kext, then you have to enable in order to get USB 3.0.

I ran the terminal command to check on the number of interrupts and compared to Macbook Pro. Both sets of numbers were about the same, and occasionally I will see 2x the number of interrupts on my hack, but it also has a lot more USB devices attached. I'm guessing this is working as intended and I still get speed step without any negative effects on USB ports or performance.
