Hi,

I have installed succesfully 10.6.7 using an asus p8p67 with an i5
4x4GB G.Skill RipJawsX 1600MHz Dual Channel and a XFX Radeon 6870!!!
I have used an OWC SSD for the primary disk and I am thinking of getting
another hard disk possibly 1 or 2 TB as DATA disk. Since the motherboard
supports SATA 6Gbps I was planning on getting that route.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for the great help in this forum!!!!

+1 on the Caviar Black.

Will Sata 3 really yield any benefit over sata 2 without a raid 0 setup?

EDIT: just checked and yeah they're a little faster in some situations.

Either way they're nearly the same price (and sometimes cheaper) than the sata 2 equivalent so why not.

yes W.D or HITACHI

Thanks for your answers.

Looking at the specs.

Should I go for the WD Caviar Black or the WD Caviar Green.
Will I see a big performance difference between the Green and the Black.

Apparently the green can go up to 7200rpm?
thanks!

WD Caviar Black 500gb for os x and WD Caviar green 500 for back up :D

Thanks,

Would I see a big performance difference going from a Samsung Spinpoint F3 to a WD Caviar Black?

Thanks

I don't think you'll see a big real-world difference between any of the mid-fast HDD. Sure, if you went silly with a 10K or faster drive, you'd see something. But between the Black and the Spinpoint F3, you're not going to notice much, if any, difference.

For that reason, it boils down to cost and reliability. HDD reliability is almost always based on anecdotal evidence. So unless there's a really bad run of a certain drive-- and there's good evidence of it (see: "deathstar" drives)-- cost.

In any case, here's an F3 review, check out the conclusion (though from 2009):
http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/storag ... -review/10

"There’s only one way to say it – the Samsung Spinpoint F3 is the fastest hard disk drive we’ve ever had the pleasure of testing here at bit-tech, having ripped through our benchmarks like a butchers knife through wet loo roll. "

thanks everyone,

I just got a spinpoint F3, can't beat the price.
I may update later, Thanks!!!!!
