So I made the daft decision of updating my Gigabyte HD3 Z370 from F3 to F13. I knew the risks beforehand but I'm looking at upgrading my i3 8th gen to an i5 9th so wanted to make sure I had the bios updated ready so I didn't have any issues when I get the new processor.

I can boot into clover fine, but when I load my main MacOS, it crashes on the Apple logo with no progress bar showing. Running in Verbose gives me the attached image.
I am running Catalina, and I'm convinced the issue is related to the config, as I still have a separate drive running Mojave, and that is booting fine with the BIOS update.

I have added the following patch in the ACPI:
find : A00A9353 54415301 replace : A00A910A FF0BFFFF

I wouldn't have got into the Mojave boot otherwise.

Ive downgraded the BIOS to F11 as I saw comments that F12 had been unreliable, but still no joy. I have adjusted all the BIOS settings to where I think they should be, and had a little trial and error there, but considering im getting into the Mojave drive, these setting must be ok? To add to why I think its a Catalina issue, I tried running the update in my Mojave drive, now when I run the MacOS Install boot from clover, I get the exact same issue.

Thanks in advance.

I don't think you made a "daft" decision to upgrade the BIOS as it is necessary if you want to use a 9th generation Intel CPU on your Z370 motherboard.

My second build also uses a Gigabyte Z370 motherboard of similar design and I have the F14 BIOS on it, which provides the same modifications as your F13 BIOS. I have no problems booting MacOS Sierra 10.12.6 / High Sierra 10.13.6 / Mojave 10.14.6 / Catalina 10.15.7 on that machine. Of course I also have the ACPI patch which is required after upgrading past the F11 BIOS to boot MacOS.

As your BIOS settings allow you to boot into Mojave it should be correct. Unfortunately I have no idea why you are unable to boot into Catalina right now. I suppose you are using the same Clover config for both Mojave and Catalina?

I have the same motherboard but have left it at F8 as I had issues when I tried once to go past that. No need for me to get F13 running, but wanted to ask what that patch does and offer that I have an OpenCore EFI working for this motherboard- again based on F8, so don't know if it will work for F13.

I have two different config files for my separate boots, only to avoid apple login issues, but neither work for my Catalina boot.
Ive swallowed my pride and gone back to F3 for now. I don't regret doing it as i would be in a far worse position had i already bought and installed the 9th gen processor! But for now all is booting normally.

Its F13 looks exactly the same to my Z370’s F14 (released on the same date). I did need the ACPI patch for Clover before updating to F14, but OpenCore does not require it.

Did you manage to find a solution? I am now in the exact same situation, can't go past F3, and I've tried them all from F4 to F14, with and without ACPI patch. My Clover is r5070.

Let me answer my own question, I updated Clover to r5123 and use the ACPI patch, now everything is back to normal with BIO F10 from Gigabyte. Now it's time to try OC and Big Sur on my next holiday.
