Just Updated to 1.3.2

  • Enabled back Real-Time notifications that I accidentally disabled in a previous version
  • Fixed @CaseySJ found issue related to RAID disks
  • Fixed missing Partition name for “unconventional way” partitioned drives -> fixes @bobmeister issue
Awesome! Will test 1.3.2 with the RAID volume soon.

@Inqnuam,

I think the HackinDROM App is now mature enough and tested enough to be opened up to new admin users so they can upload EFIs for other motherboards.

But just as Apple curates the App Store to prevent it from being cluttered with garbage, we should also curate the HackinDROM App.

Some guidelines:
  • We should not allow anyone and everyone to upload their EFI folders.
    • If the EFIs available in HackinDROM get a reputation for being buggy, incomplete or unreliable, people will quickly lose confidence in the app.
    • So we must ensure that only good quality EFIs are allowed.
  • Anyone wishing to get an admin account should provide a link to their build guide so we can determine whether the EFI and the author is trustable.
  • In general, EFIs from golden builds can be trusted. Any author of a golden build should be able to get an Admin account for HackinDROM.
  • For User Builds, we should check the build thread for at least these criteria:
    • Have enough users applied the EFI successfully (this means the EFI is verified by multiple users).
    • Is there sufficient interest in the build. If the build is several generations old (i.e. Z170 or Z270 motherboards) we can still allow it if the EFI is created well. Otherwise it may be best to prioritize recent and current platforms.
      • Z370 and newer for example
      • Ryzen platforms

Should we create a new thread for "HackinDROM App usage" with guides to different ways of EFI installations/ updates and also of course a guide for admin section?
Leaving this thread for beta versions, for beta users, to test new functionalities

about matureness, I have a todo list with 4 items, once they are done then we can consider this app as stable!

Good idea. Once the stable version is ready I can create and promote a new thread. While we wait for the stable build, let's think of what we should put into Post 1 of the thread. I can reserve the first 2 or 3 posts for additional items.

In other words, let's come up with a simple Table of Contents for the new thread. For example:

Post 1: Introduction to the app and how to download and install the app. This post can also include instructions for users who wish to apply for admin accounts. Guidelines or prerequisites for admin users can be posted here as well.

Post 2: How to update existing EFIs when a new version of OpenCore is available.

Post 3: How to create a new EFI for a new build.

Post 4: Auxiliary functions such as creating a Report Archive, submitting troubleshooting information (such as diskutil list -plist or running the app from Terminal and looking for log messages, etc.), known issues and/or limitations, etc.

Once the stable version is ready
As I published 20+ versions in 3 days you know the stable version is for very soon, so prepare your fingers for the guides :lolno:

Im thinking about a very small little tinny app that user will use to extract System Report, alldisks.plist, IOReg automatically (<-thanks to the corrector :angel:) + a custom message from the user, and send all that content to the server where ill be notified about that issue, then once issue fixed ill publish a release note in beta thread, or in the main if it is about a big issue

@Inqnuam and @CaseySJ

I'm quite involved in the OptiMac build, and I think @trs96 is the person that is willing to maintain the EFI for this build, and of course, I'm not an admin. He has a lot of knowledge of this build!

Is it an idea that the HackinDROM app will become published on Github? The reason I'm asking is because tonymacx86.com was down for quite a while this week (and perhaps you will win the lottery tomorrow and will stop doing this as a hobby ;-) ). This got me wondering, what if for whatever reason, this board goes down and all of the knowledge is gone?

Perhaps I'm thinking out loud here, but it would be a waste to lose all this all of a sudden. What are your thoughts on this @Inqnuam and @CaseySJ

The same goes for the info in @CaseySJ 's topic, in my opinion.
