[GUIDE/Workaround] Using Intel HD530 with Dual Monitors

Hi guys,

do you think this guide can be applied to a Lenovo motherboard? This board has 3 connector, 2x DP and 1x VGA. I'm not interested to VGA but it seems that the first DP connector show only images on boot, after reach the login screen I've black screen, the other one works without problem. Other problem is the ig-platform used in my case (0x19120000) using DP I don't have all HiDPI resolution (on my Samsung U28D590). I need to use 0x19260002 to have all HiDPI resolution (essentially the one 2560x1440)

Hi stich86,
First of all since you're using DP's only there shouldn't be any need to patch the connectors in the 19120000 framebuffer. The DP on my Z170 Deluxe works out of the box in 4K @60Hz. Are you using DP to DP cables or are the monitors connected via adapter? Have you tried hotplugging the monitor that goes black once at the desktop. You'd need to take a look at the connector data in the 19260002 framebuffer to see the reason why you're able to get native HiDPI resolution of your monitor using that framebuffer.

Hi,

I'm about to purchase components for my new i7-6700 build with dual displays. It seems that the most compatible setup is to have main display connected through DP + HDMI/DVI but how about having both displays on DPs (on HD530 / GA-Z170X Ultra Gaming which actually has 2 DPs)?

Has anyone had any success with such configuration? Is it reasonable to assume that this could be a good idea?

The ultra-gaming has one DP out and one DP IN. The other port is hdmi 1.4

Beat me to it! :)

Perhaps you could go a bit further, and explain in more detail your own setup in regards to multi-monitor? That is, assuming you have such mult-monitor setup. Presumably its all exactly the same as per the OP's Gaming 5 in post #1.

I'm waiting for an HP 4k screen to be delivered then I'm going to try and run my Dell 2K screen using HDMI and my 4k using the display port - no idea how this will pan out but I'm envisaging booting with 2K screen and then switching on / plugging in the 4k or vice versa I guess...

I may well just use the 4k and sell the Dell 2k - I'm don't really need 2x 27" screens tbh but thought I'd try them while I had both in my possession...

I really want to try the 5k LG via thunderbolt 3 port on this board using the DP port in and a GTX9** series graphic card... but I need to eat as well...

4K works perfectly fine using DP running @4K60Hz. Note if you want to use the 4K display as primary you will need to lower the resolution to match your second display until you reach the desktop, then you can raise it to 4K. I tested this and it is the only way to get dual monitors to work with a 4K monitor.

Hi wildwillow,

Monitor is directly attached using DP1.2 straight cable. Some hints how to interpretate date from IOReg? I'll try this afternoon to do another test and get an IOReg dump

thanks

it seems the only difference is the port type. Main display is attached to port 0x6, using platform 0x19260002 mark this port as DP (00 04 00 00), while using platform 0x19120000 mark it as HDMI (00 08 00 00). I've tried to use clover to change 08 to 04 but without successes (using ig platform 19120000). Any hints?

Thanks

Hi stich86,
Could you run the tests below to get the IOReg's thanks.

1. If you could attach a native 19260002 IOReg. Looking at the data it appears that port0x5 and port0x6 are eDP's and active but this isn't to say that your port layout falls on these connectors. It could be that one falls on the unused connector FF 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 20 00 00 00.

2. Also could you attach an IOReg including the 4th display patch from Post#1 (credit toleda). This should enable port0x7. Test hotplug 2nd display.

The connector data from <19260002> is below.

<02 00 26 19>00 00 00 00 2F 09 08 00 00 00 00 00
