Hi hackmefrancis,

No I'm using the stock Intel cooler. This chip runs pretty cool (65w TDP). Under load it reaches 40-42*C.
You can see some more temps looking at post#1 screen shots of Intel Power Gadget. What motherboard are looking to get. If you have the need for multiple USB 3.0 devices ensure the USB Chipsets are Intel as there is a method to get them running at full speeds. Asmedia/Renasas/NEC will run at USB 2.0 speeds with no current fix. Just a heads up.

I was planning to build a mini-ITX for this CPU. And with those temps I think I'm gonna be OK with the stock cooler as it would be just for Web Development.

I currently have a mid-tower rig with i7-4790k and my idle temps are about 38-40C with stock cooler as well.

Anyway thanks for the heads up. BTW, how am I suppose to know what chipset the USB are?

Thanks.

Hey I have the Z97A Gaming 6 same thing but only has Asmedia USB Ports, I followed Rehabmans USB guide and didn't make port injectors, but I was stuck on USB 2.0 speed. I installed the FakePCIID and XHCI kext and the the dsdt patches and the enable all kext, and it didn't fix them. Today, I uninstalled the patches and kexts and went back to stock USB config like yours and like magic 3.0 is being detected on all those ports, not saying it will work again lol, but I have 3.0 detected now! And my 2.0 speed hubs on the front are still being detected as well! So worth a shot to try that with Asmedia USB I'm guessing, try it and let me know if it works, like to see if doing that might fix issues on the MSI ones without having to have the kexts and patches installed always. It's stuck through rebuilding kext and kernel caches and reboots as well. Good luck with your MSI!
Hi Dragonmichael68,

I haven't implemented any fix for USB within the guide, its purely native and the findings reported at the bottom of Post#1. Our boards are very similar but the majority of your ports are Intel Z97 Express Chipset as shown below. You've got only 1 AsMedia 'Type C' port.

Check out the manufacturers website of a chosen motherboard. Under the Specifications tab you'll see USB Chipset. Once I find a board I like this is the first place I visit to to see if its a worthy OS X candidate.

Hi gts_215,
Playing iTunes movies is affected by DRM protected content which has not been possible to view since the 7 Series Chipset. Its not possible with HD6200 on 9 series either.

the 3.0 and 3.1(shows as 3.0 for some reason) are 0x1b21(Asmedia) and the 2.0 are 0x8086(Intel) in my System Information, Don't trust the specs on MSI's website, apparently theres a decent amount of incorrect information. Had to call tech support about the M.2 SSD Slot and they've told me its a PCI 2.0 x2,x4 and PCI 3.0 x4 and supports up to 32GBs but the tech specs show it only supports up to 10GBs and I can't find online if anyones tested a 3.0 x4 in it to see if it runs full speed. Tech Support and the Spec sheet also aren't sure if the board supports NVMe as well. Don't trust MSI spec sheets is what I've learned. lol

Thats good to know that the spec info is incorrect. Funny you should mention the M.2 drive speed. I've got an M.2 AHCI and an M.2 NVMe SSD and both work on the MSI gaming 7. Obviously NVMe isn't working on 3rd party drives currently but the AHCI version is. I can only get the AHCI drive to run at PCI 2.0 x2, not yet able to get PCI 3.0 x4 speeds from the M.2 slot. The drive does run at x4 as i've moved it to my Asus Z170 Deluxe's M.2 slot and its working as expected. Almost 1900Mbs read speeds. The NVMe drive works with Windows 10 on the MSI Gaming 7 so both versions are supported but at x2 speeds. With OS X's BlackMagic Disk Speed Test its reading and writing around 700-750mps which is still fast but not to the spec of the drives themselves.

are you able to use iMessage? How did you get your killer LAN to work and show up as built in?

Great work by the way!

Hi shakakoa,

To get iMessage working use the Fix iMessage guide. Yes ethernet is working. MultiBeast/Drivers/Network/Atheros/AtherosE2200Ethernet v2.0.1 √
