[Guide] Intel NUC7/NUC8 using Clover UEFI (NUC7i7Bxx,NUC8i7Bxx,etc)

Good day everyone,

just a small update:
I'm now on the 10.14.5 supplemental update. The bios 81 update is running on my Nuc7i5BNK. I still get the message, that the Mac was shutdown due to an error. The system itself is stable, it ran for almost 2 days in a row while downloading the photo and iCloud data. I also added the CPU speed for my system as suggested in Post #2677.

Has someone a workaround for the error message? Thanks in advance.

Greetings
schlotterp

I heard there were reports on 10.15.4 crashing, even on real Macs, which I think is why the the supplemental update was issued. I've not had that problem yet but it looks to be graphics related but I am guessing, it is similar to the crashes reported before the update was issued though.

Also I suggested to not set the CPU speed and let native power management throttle it by need. Maybe that's what you were trying to say.

Is it SAFE to update the bios of NUC8ixBEx?
Nuc 8 Bios 0078
I'm using OC 5.6 from page 90 + Catalina 10.15.4 on my NUC8i5BEH

Thank you

Nevermind, updated to the clover config from post#894 hereof, the screen turned pink. Fixed that by applying the HiDPI patch.
Hi I have the same issue! Where did you find the hidpi patch?

Good day,

then I misunderstood. I went into clover and entered the cpu speed, in my case 2200 MHz, by hand. I don’t know how you got that view in clover with the elements in a list/row or do you use another software for this?

Greetings

That screen shot is of Xcode displaying the contents of the config.plist. Works great for Clover edits

Hi everyone,

First of all, thanks a lot to Leesureone and his awesome support. I've tried 2-3 guides before with no luck booting or installing then I stumbled upon the famous #894 post (I guess numbers are updated due to earlier posts deleted ?) and was running in no time ! Thanks !!!

I've followed it to the letter for my NUCi3BEH2 and am almost perfectly running except for the automatic reboot after sleep issue, which makes it very annoying. Would anyone have some tips they can share ? I've browsed this post quite extensively but may have missed some advice.

So far what I've done :
- Updated to bios 78
- Running Catalina 10.15.4 with the last supplemental update
- EFI (clover 5108) as per post #894 with only adding an SSDT posted by Leesureone regarding USB-C (can't find the post number back)
- Running on a 2.5 SSD (not using the NVME slot so far)

I've tried :
- Removing the com.apple.PowerManagement.* in /Library/Preferences. There were indeed 3 and MacOS regenerates only 2 after reboot but no luck there.
- Downgrading to Bios 77 (was unable to downgrade to bios 56 which is unsupported, so says the bios update)
- Connecting only the mouse and keyboard via USB
- Switching to OC 5.7 or 5.8 (also from post #894), again with no luck

One strange thing is that Clover configurator detects the new version 5110 but Clover installer seems to not see the current version installed as it says install instead of upgrade next to all checkboxes in the customize section.

Also I noted that both OC EFIs generate a kernel panic if I leave a micro SD in the slot.

Thanks !
Have a good day !

Hi @mhiernaux. The OC versions do not support the card reader, haven’t figured out why yet but it’s a low priority issue for me at this time.
Sleep/Wake problems like you are having are typically related to incorrect implementation of the USB port limitations or sometimes a USB device itself and or occasionally software. Sounds like you eliminated usb devices, any unusual software running in the background?

Hi @Leesureone ,

Thanks for your answer. I'll stick to the Clover version.

I can try another keyboard and mouse and swith usb ports or deactivate some of them in the bios, will check later today. It's a fresh install with no data and no software installed yet, I wanted to make sure everything works fine before loading all the rest.
