So, I think it is expected but, the second monitor does not work unless I plug it after booting, and also the mic and earplug, does not work unless I plug it after booting. Is this normal?
The original guide by Rehabman talks about how the second display doesn't work until after boot and with the set up I had found that to be true. However with my newer LG 4K monitors using HDMI and a Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter both monitors work at boot up and after sleep. I think it is a function of the type of monitors used more than the device itself.

I don't recall reading issues with the front audio jack needing to be plugged in after boot, that's a first as far as I know. Maybe use Hackintool to download the latest kexts for your machine and replace the older versions in your EFI/Kexts/ Other folder and see if it makes a difference. Some users have also had to migrate kexts to the L/E directory to get sound working correctly.

I noticed that it was an issue of the computer setting the input and output to the monitor that does not have speakers as default.

I will try with another monito that has hdmi. Thanks

Cric I am stumbling thru the posts looking for the pot of Gold (Golden Build). The top of this page says go to Post #2 because the information here is out of date and will not work. Where do I find a post with all of the problems resolved and links that go to the latest, improved, working files needed to build my NUC8i7BEH1 and run Mojave or Catalina (preferably). ReHabMan's leaving has left this system in a bit of a mess. I am still using my UD5H cause it works great, but only using Yosemite cause upgrading looks rough for my skills. I need a fairly uncomplicated guide that is easy to follow and things are looking tough on the easy to follow part.

TR01, since misery (or mystery) loves company, I'll share with you that I have the same symptoms observed.

Specs:
System: NUC8i5BEK
Memory: 2x8 Crucial (DDR4-2400)
Drive: Samsun 970 EVO 250GB (NVMe)

I have installed Windows 10 into a dual-boot configuration. Whenever I boot Windows from Clover, it is always successful. Whenever I boot to macOS from Clover, either from powered off state, or restart from Windows, or restart from macOS, I get the same OSX error allocating error (and if not verbose mode, then simply the "Do Not Proceed" symbol.

I have given up at the moment, and now I just hit ctrl-alt-delete and try again. Usually get through on the third attempt.

Annoying though.
Hi @BillyGoatGruff and @TR1,
I've the same problem (I quote your post because it's my identical situation but on a different configuration),
in the meantime have you find any solution at this annoying bug?

It's a pity because the system it's pretty stable and everythings work fine.

My specs:
System:MSI MPG Z390 GAMING PLUS
Processor: i5-9400F
Memory: 2x8 Corsair (DDR4-3000)
GPU: Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 580 8GD5
Drive: Samsung 970 EVO 250GB (NVMe) for Windows10
Samsung 960 EVO 250GB for Catalina 10.15.3

Hey guys,
anyone having problems with the ethernet lately?
I decided to come back to my NUCi3 hackintosh after a while and neither my old EFI folder nor the new one in post 430
is successfully enabling the ethernet. I've tryed both with Mojave (successfully in the past) and Catalina.
My BIOS settings seems to be in order. Is there any hidden cache I should erase?
Thanks in advance.

This
Keeping your system up to date
  • Updating the BIOS
  • Updating Clover EFI
  • Updating Mojave to version 10.14.6 (latest version before Catalina)
Updating the BIOS
Don't forget to keep track of the settings (see post #1).
The latest BIOS from Intel can be downloaded here: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/126148/Intel-NUC-Kit-NUC8i5BEH
Copy the .BIO file on a USB stick and flash the BIOS by hitting F7 when the NUC powers on.

Updating Clover EFI
The files provided by Leesureone and attached in this post just needs to be unzipped and copied in the EFI folder of the USB stick used in post #1.
To do so:
  • Mount the EFI partition on your USB Boot Drive by plugging it on your Mac
  • Delete the EFI folder on it
  • Empty the trash
  • Copy the entire EFI folder previously unzipped
Leave the USB Drive inserted into the NUC and restart the computer. Boot from USB Drive by pressing F10 at start and you should be able to see your hard drive at the Clover Boot Screen.
Choose it and boot normally.

Then repeat the process on your hard drive:
  • Mount the EFI partition on your hard drive
  • Delete the EFI folder
  • Copy the entire EFI folder from your USB Boot Drive
  • Restart the NUC and voilà!
Note: the files provided by Leesureone are also compatible with Catalina.

Updating Mojave to version 10.14.6 (latest version before Catalina)
The combo update can download here if software update isn't showing it and follow installation as usual (the NUC will restart several times during the process).
Download macOS Mojave 10.14.6 Combo Update

Note that Catalina works as well.

More information provided by Leesureone (from post #430)
With recent bios updates being pushed out by Intel above version 56 as well as updates by Apple to Mojave beyond 14.2 the guide has become outdated and no longer works as is.

Two things additional things are needed at a minimum to be able to reach the Mojave install window.

1. An updated version of the Clover bootloader must be installed, I suggest version 4290 or higher, although slightly older versions will probably work but have not been tested. Rehabman’s version available through the terminal commands in his original guide on Github will cause the installer to halt.

2. An updated config.plist containing an ACPI/DSDT/Patch for an RTC issue that will also cause the installer to stall if your bios is a version higher than 56

***Some users are also apparently unaware that their Samsung 970 EVO plus SSD will also cause install failure if the firmware is not updated first. Visit the Samsung Website for instructions on how to create a bootable USB drive for firmware updates.

The attached EFI folder has all of the above as well as some fixes for onboard Audio and USB C functionality.

If you decide to use it it’s as simple as creating a bootable USB drive using UniBeast and then replacing the EFI folder with the attached.

Once Mojave install is complete and you have then installed an updated version of Clover to your hard drive replace the EFI folder on your hard drive with the same attached folder should finish the job. Afterwards I highly suggest you use Clover Configurator to create a unique serial number (although “continuity” is not an issue unless you have gone the route of adding a Wireless/ Bluetooth card in the one available M2 slot with the appropriate adapter mentioned in various NUC posts). Cheers

Edit: If you have issues with crackling sound from the headphone jack several users have reported success installing all kexts, with the exception of FakeSMC.kext, to the Library/Extensions folder. Audio over HDMI and the headphone jack both should work. (You can probably install all of kexts there, including FakeSMC.kext, if you prefer).

Updated EFI with Clover Version 5100 Catalina ready 12/13/19.
Updateing bios from 56 to 77/78 doesn't work. My working system is now broken, I cant boot, stuck with loading bar. I had 10.14.2.

I can't downgrade .. because system says that isn't compatible.

EDIT:
Ok, its works, but I cant back to previous version 56 bios, and previous Clover version... U have to finish the guide .. otherwise .. the systems cant boot.

If you're like me you downloaded various files as part of the set up (and possibly updates) for your NUC. One of the results is that when you boot up, Clover is displaying whatever theme the creator of those files likes. But there are many more themes to choose from. I wanted to take a minute to recommend the CloverThemeManager app. It will let you preview all the themes available on Git, download any you may want, and set clover to use whatever one you choose.

Download link is in this post. https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/302674-clover-theme-manager/. You will need to have Git, svn and command line tools installed. I only needed to add Git. Links to those are in this post https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/302674-clover-theme-manager/?do=findComment&comment=2695564

It's quick and easy, and I'm still trying to decide which theme I like best :)

BTW - if this is off topic for the NUC thread let me know and I will remove it.

Hi everyone, hope you had a good long weekend. Can I please ask a kind soul to assist and share the dumped DSDT/SSDT tables from your NUC8 i7BEH(2) device, running the latest BIOS v78, that you can find in the Clover's ACPI/ORIGINAL folder when you press F4 at boot screen? A zip package would be greatly appreciated. This is to confirm that there was no change in the boot-hack after BIOS v56, per my old post-comment here. I am still on v56 and was considering to do this "leap of faith". Thank you in advance!

P.S. @Grom51 the solution to the boot problem after BIOS v56 update was posted already, check out my comment and the solution posted by @Leesureone some time ago. It requires an added entry-hack in your CLOVER config... perhaps you can assist me by dumping BIOS v78 tables? In any case, it's known already some pages ago that you can't go back to v56 BIOS once you flashed a recent one...

My take on this is its now a hardware/bios specific patch that isn't needed by anyone except NUC8 users. I think the fix has been established and that's pretty much it, no further development needed or expected.

Testing the need for it is pretty easy, remark out that comment in the config.plist and see if you will boot.

As far as the NUC10 we will have to wait and see if Apple decides to use the Frost Canyon CPUs and go from there.
Hi @Leesureone since the new mac mini is out, wanted to check if you are able to make any progress with your NUC10?

Edit: The new Mac Mini is still running 8th Gen, so I guess we wait...

Thanks

Sorry for the late reply, not getting email notification. Right, we are waiting for the new MacBook Pros.
