I haven't researched card readers with this build yet. I do know that some are macOS compatible and some are not. You'll just have to do some searching to find what brands and models will work. Which RX580 did you have that was too long ? Did it block even the USB 3 header ?
I bought a sapphire rx 580 nitro plus that was intended to be used on a I7 8700k build. I didn't know how big it was until it got delivered. It's even bigger then my 1080 founders I think.

@trs96 so you have any experience with the Msi rx 580? My concern would be noise level and cooling.

I finally got around to trying my rx 560 in my MT box, piggy backing another power supply in, just for the card, and used a 5 euro PCIe riser card to allow me access to the sata ports.

It works fabulously and Iv'e finally got my fab old Hazro monitor running again, and this time without having to attempt baffling patches for the RX 560.

Previously on my old x58 board I just got a black screen with this card, and Iv'e not found a working DP to DVI-D adaptor that manages to spark up this demanding mono port monitor.

So yet another win on this fab bargain build.

PS
anyone have any problems with the 10.14.5 update or am I good to go?

I would put an extra fan in the front to pull air in and through the case. There are small holes that let air in, just no fan. Personally I would never put a 580 into an Optiplex MT. Not designed for cards this large and power hungry. At most I'd use an ITX RX 570 that fits and is quieter.

I was looking at the 580 you have on the guide of gpu. I was leaning towards the 570 but amazon had a open box msi 580 from your guide for 134 and thought I'd try it out. Should I cancel the order and just get the 570? I also just received my fenvi card. I'm currently using a Nvidia gt 710 that I borrowed from a friend. Thanks looking forward to your input.

If you mean this 580 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078Q78L93/?tag=tonymacx86com-20
I think that should work. It's not as long as most and not overclocked so it's got good potential. I've never owned one so you'd be the first to report on it.

I also picked this nvme adapter from my local frys for 17. 99 will try it out later as I installed the os to a 500gb Samsung Evo 860 that I picked up for 78 but tempted to get a nvme since it's such a good deal and would like to have windows os installed as well.

Nice solution
and is quieter
My Daily Mac - a 7010 (EDIT: corrected much later from DT to) MT - i5 with just HD4000 graphics and stock fans, never push it hard but in normal use, it's the most quiet machine with fans that I've ever been near. Still being wowed by these machines eg. - in sleep - the daily mac uses 3 Watts, the well built but stock parts machine from a UK builder uses 7 watts.

My Daily Mac - a 7010 DT
I had a 3010 DT briefly before I sold it and it was also amazingly quiet. Not sure why that form factor has the quietest fans. If it was a 7010/Q77 I would have kept it but I'm already owning too many hacks as it is.

This may be why it's now the #5 best selling desktop on Amazon.com right now. You get an i5, Win10 Pro license and 16GB of ram for much less than a junky new Win10 Home machine from Walmart that costs over 300 dollars and has a meager 4GB of ram. The Acer PC at #3 below is good spec wise but they give you the cheapest H310 motherboard and a garbage PSU with those. Not sure if the PSU can be swapped out either. It also doesn't work with Mojave like the 7010.
