I was referencing the EFI partition, which is generally too small to use with OSX by default. If yours is 200mb or larger, you should be able to use it. Otherwise, you will need to wipe it out and sometimes Disk Utility isn’t able to. Simply overwriting some of the first few blocks usually fixes the problem.“Starting fresh is probably best, but macOS’s Disk Utility doesn’t cope well with erasing it.
