[Guide] How to Mac an IBM Server X3550M4 to run Mojave
X79 C602 - E5-2620 V2 - E5-2680 V2

My new toy is an IBM server X3550 M4, 8 2.5” bays. It’s a 1U server, and the noise is very loud. I want to use it as a Google drive backup server, and don’t want to use Windows system.
It’s very cheap from taobao, from China.
Before install Mojave.
1) Onboard minsas port of SATA: no way to enable; I gave up.
2) Onboard CDROM port of SATA: this has been limited to 1.5G SATA. If use ssd, do not use it.
3) Mezzanine card 0f 10GB: this is good as it is a real Intel card, and easy to modify eeprom to use Smalltree driver 0f 82599.
4) Onboard Intel 4 port Intel i350 AM4: best way is to close the other 3 ports, and just leave Port 1. Use Ethtool to modify EEPROM. This will be OOB.
5) Prepare a LSI SAS 2308-IT HBA card: I use sas-2008 and had no problem. But I heard that sas-2308 is good for SSD. I don’t know. I need time to prove it. (I have lots of HBA cards.)
6) Use Seagate USB HDD adapter will be no function as to use a SSD be a USB drive, unlike Gigabyte or ASUS motherboard. USB 2.0 is very slow, be patient.
* drivers needed
1. Smatlltree driver for Intel 82599; this can be installed later.
2. LSI driver, from Astek. Search for it on this forum; you will find it. It needs to put this two files in boot USB.
Now, put your ssd connected to SAS Port and, begin your install.
If you fail to install on SAS, connect SSD to onboard CDROM port, but it needs extra SATA power. The easy way is to use a cable from another PC or use a USB porter cable with 2 USB connectors to supply 1A. After install, put LSI driver in /L/E or /others from EFI.

If you want to buy one like me, be sure to buy second PCIe riser card (low profile).
PS:
1.Sound, USB sound adapter, or USB DAC.
2.Next, I will try to use NVMe.
3.OpenZFS, will be my storage file system on Mac.
