I'm using an Intel SSDPEKNW010T8 1Tb pci-e M.2 drive. it works fine. my guess is that Dell wrote the spec about max 512 Gb before 1Tb M.2 drives were commonly available.Any m.2 2280 PCIe either 3.0x4 or 3.0x2 should work except for EVO 970+ which is known to not work. macOS support only 4K block but atfs converts 512B to 4K block automatically. So no problem.
I am using local brand(Inland premium 512GB PCIe 3.0x4 sold by microcenter). It has 512B initial sector but atfs converted it to 4K. It’s now EFI 512B, macOS atfs 4K, windows 512B.
Dell 5570 supports maximum 512GB PCIe m.2 but I think it does not take the benefit of full 3.0x4 speed. My ssd supports 3.2GB read but benchmark shows only 2.0GB. I guess dell 5570 use only 2 lanes, i.e., 3.0x2.
