I created a much easier one-liner now which should survive across different OS X versions:

sudo perl -i.bak -pe 's|\xB8\x01\x00\x00\x00\xF6\xC1\x01\x0F\x85|\x33\xC0\x90\x90\x90\x90\x90\x90\x90\xE9|sg' /System/Library/Frameworks/IOKit.framework/Versions/Current/IOKit

Wow really. Why did no one else do this before?

Edit : Does it still need to be signed after ?

It it still needs to be signed, see updated first post.

Keyboard backlight works through ACPI, no specific fixes where needed.
It allows 3 modes while in OS X: bright, normal & off.

By the way the default pixel clock is capped at 330mhz. With my QNIX monitor I could only hit 82hz and with Catleap 84hz. Both monitors would stop loading profiles that had higher than 330mhz pixel clock.

Ah good that is interesting to know. The previous cap was somewhere around 275mhz.
I believe Apple has raised their cap because of retina 5K display in their product line.

Lets wait until they raise it to 373.25, which is what my QHD+ screen needs, then the patch will no longer be needed.

I'm pretty sure its always been 330 Here is a older post http://www.monitortests.com/forum/archive/index.php?thread-13.html

But I read somewhere single link DVI is 165mhz. So dual link being 330mhz would be double.

DP 1.3 is 600mhz.

Quote :
In September 2014, DisplayPort 1.3 specification was released, which updates dual-mode support to HDMI 2.0 allowing 14.4 Gbit/s of bandwidth and 600 MHz pixel clock.

rethinking about it, Maybe the laptop really does have 250mhz limit since its due to more the of the interface. I have no idea what type of interface your laptop has or what pixel clock limit is on what ever interface they use between GPU and display.

According to the earliest posts I could find it used to be 165mhz (330 mhz in dual link) in 10.8.X:
http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1651886

However I do know that the EDID of my built-in laptop screen requires 373.25 Mhz, which is just outside of the OS X normally allowed limits.

I guess it does not really matter if it was changed by Apple at some point in time, what we know is that 373.25 Mhz is still to high to function out of the box.

As background information:

Apple uses (used?) LVDS connectors in their laptops:

The Dell XPS 9530 uses eDP:

i don't want be too ripetitive.. can you tell me if you can wake up the notebook open LID or press any button in keyboard/trackpad?

Thanks..

[GUIDE] Dell XPS 9530

From the top of my head, wake-up only happens when pressing the power-button.
Keyboard or trackpad do not do anything.

I am not sure if opening and closing the lid makes a difference, I never tried.
I will try it later today.
