I have modded two G5's in the past couple of years and thought I was finished modding until I started reading the G4 Cube threads. Well I got hooked real quick and started to look for justification to build one. I decided out guest bedroom needed a computer station for our guests
and what better solution then a Cube.
I decided a guest computer did not need to have the max horsepower but enough to be fast and responsive.
I followed Ersterhernd's design with a couple of exceptions. Needless to say I could not have done this mod without the threads on this forum. I did a lot of reading from various threads which answered most all my questions.
So I started shopping with the intent to find just the cube itself. I found a perfect cube for sale on Ebay and it actually still ran with the original PowerPC chip. It was perfect with zero scratches.
I then changed my plans and decided to acquire the remaining original components. I purchased speakers, keyboard, mouse and 20" Cinema Display.
I purchased the following parts as well:
Intel DQ77KB Mobo (Bios 51)
Intel I3-3225s
8GB Ram
120GB SSD
Slot DVD
CPU Slim Cooler
Wireless N Mini card
Sonic amplifier for Speakers
92mm Fan
60mm Top Fan
Edisen Sensor (On Order)
160 Watt external PSU
Misc hardware-screws,tap,aluminum bars,JB Weld
I used ordinary hand tools. I also had a variable Dremel type tool which was helpful.
Things to be done:
Install Wireless card
Procure and install Edisen touch sensor(on order)
Cable Management
Cube enclosure fit
Cube Speakers with Sonic Amp
and what better solution then a Cube.
