Hi All - So I had read a post that one of the latest Nvidia web driver updates had significantly improved Bruce X results in FCP X so I decided to throw my 970 in and give it a spin. What do you know but I'm now getting a faster result with the 970 than I did with my 280X.

970 - 23 seconds

280X - 27 seconds

I'm curious if anyone else has noticed this improvement?

This would be HUGE news for our community for sure!

Are you sure it was a clean run and repeatable?

Because those of us who were struggling to get 290(x)/390(x) working, for FCPX reasons over the 970, could now get the best of both worlds (FCPX + CUDA apps) and similar gaming performance on the Windows side. Not to mention lower power draw.

I'd be interested in seeing what the 980 (non Ti) does.

So I did another round this morning.

Background rendering is definitely off, it shows as unrendered in the timeline and just for kicks I deleted generated project render files after every run.

Still getting 23 seconds but would love to see others confirming this.

Really great. Too bad nobody else has confirmed it with a few more tests. But it sounds like it's definitely working for you.

For reference on older graphic drivers:
GTX 980
Yosemite 10.10.5 (14f27)
Nvidia WebDriver-346.02.03f01
CUDA Driver Version: 7.5.25
34 seconds

Confirmed improvement

GTX 980 Bios modded @ 1447 Mhz Core / 8000 Mhz Memory (previous test was with same overclock)
El Capitan 10.11.3 (15D21)
NVIDIA Web Drivers 346.03.05f01
CUDA Driver Version: 7.5.25

19 Seconds !

That's great news. I think we can conclude that this is confirmed!

For reference, my R9 290 does 16-17s.

X5650 4.2 Ghz
RAID 0 2x 1TB Spinpoint drives (FCPX library)
256MB MX100 output drive
All SATA 2.0

Thanks for the confirmation. That's quite an improvement!

Confirmed! I'm new to FCP, jsut getting into video making for my business and was a bit worried when I read that even older AMD GPUs outperform the newest NVIDIA ones on FCPX! Luckily I have a spare 4770k and motherboard lying around, so figured would use that and pick up a secondhand AMD card to build a dedicated Hackintosh - this one is dual boot with windows for gaming.

Specs are:
Asus GTX 970 Strix
Asus Z170-K
Intel i7 6700K
16GB Corsair 3000mhz RAM.

I've done the test 3 times, and made sure background rendering was off, and even tried exporting in different pro res formats. I'm getting a time of 24 seconds! Very happy

Bit sad though too as was looking forward to building another PC...maybe when I buy a 1080 I can use that haha.

I dont have the CUDA drivers installed though, does that matter?
