Re: GTX 480 & 10.6.8 - QE, OpenGL/CL & CUDA Benches

Please forgive me if I'm insulting you to think that you can't make this happen, but you're that confident that this can work on my set up?

Yes.

Re: GTX 480 & 10.6.8 - QE, OpenGL/CL & CUDA Benches

Okay then, I will buy it. Does it matter which model I purchase? How about these models? I like that they are Superclocked but don't know if you can work with your custom files or not:

1) Zotac GTX 480
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... -_-Product

or this one:

2) EVGA GTX 480
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications ... kwCjCECjCE

Or should I just get the model you have (below) and be done with it?:

3) ASUS GTX 480
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... -_-Product

I'll be waiting for your reply... Again, thanks... :)

It doesn't matter, models are only about GPU OC or Different Fans tweaks.

I don't have any custom file by the way. Mine is working OOB with Chameleon RC5 injection support, and latest NVIDIA Drivers ;)

Re: GTX 480 & 10.6.8 - QE, OpenGL/CL & CUDA Benches

Hey Thi, This is great that they just released this, but if this is now released then what about the GTX 5XX series?

Only with Lion ;) I invite you to follow Netkas news --> http://netkas.org/

Re: GTX 480 & 10.6.8 - QE, OpenGL/CL & CUDA Benches

Maybe I should wait until Lion 10.7 comes out and then purchase what I want later. Just use the 6870 that I have now until then... What do you think?

Wait for Lion ;)

Re: GTX 480 & 10.6.8 - QE, OpenGL/CL & CUDA Benches

Sorry, here you go:

http://www.evga.com/products/moreinfo.a ... P3-1572-AR

Tell me what you think and at $330 after rebates that's a good card...

Yep, just above the 480 --> http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html

But I don't know if it's a good idea to buy a 5xx for MacOS as it is not supported by SL we can think performances will not be much better than a 4xx under Lion. But maybe I'm wrong.

It would be great if someone can make a website where we can post bench results for our hackintoshes. :shifty:

Re: GTX 480 & 10.6.8 - QE, OpenGL/CL & CUDA Benches

Sorry what do you mean by "SL"? :|

Also from what I see in the spec of the new download off of Nvidia's site I don't see the GTX 4XX Series of cards on there:

http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/macosx-c ... er-uk.html

under Supported Products - So how come it still works?

Snow Leopard.

It is compatible with any 4xx :) I don't know why they didn't mentioned it.

Re: GTX 480 & 10.6.8 - QE, OpenGL/CL & CUDA Benches

Hey Thi,

This looks like a LOT of work but if you can decipher this Thi, then let us know if this possible and maybe you can reach out to this guy and compare notes... Again, I always like to network with others...

You're probably right with SL issue and I just decided to purchase the EVGA GTX 480 Superclocked GPU. I got it off of eBay for $254.00 total (includes the shipping). I'm also going to water cool it and OC it to get more out of it. No big deal. I think all I need to do to OC the 480 (which I should be able to do in Windows 7 using their EVGA OC Scanner) then go back to my Mac OS X and use OC'd card. If there is a way to do it on Mac Nvidia drivers then I will do that instead as I really don't want to go between Windows 7 and Mac OS X. If for nothing else at least it's the Superclocked version. But I just watched this video:

and this thing can be OC'd pretty high and still run cool. the Koolance Water Block is just fine... I'll still get great performance out of this card and and will do better than the stock (or even the Superclocked) GTX 580. We'll see the results after I install this. Thanks for the help...

Regardless it's far better than the 6870 for the apps that I use, because the 6870 wouldn't be able to work with my apps on anything except the use of the monitor (and games - and I don't play video games). Too busy trying to find the best GPU to work on my Mac Hak Pro - LOL !!! Ok, not funny... :lolno: Well, it was funny to me... :)

Thanks for all your input and now I'm just going to wait until I get everything...
