put all the settings to max, see if its crappy, if so, lower settings one by one

Is it DDR2 or DDR3? If its DDR2 that sounds about right to me.

starcraft2 crashes on my hackintosh at start. everything else works fine.
nvidia 9800gtx+
10.6.4

why would they care about my graphics card. Everything else works fine including 3d, opengl tests, etc

It's because beta is over. SC II doesn't work without a connection to Blizzard. Just have to wait.

my StarCraft 2 beta insists that run the game at "medium" settings. this seem kinda low to me for such a good card. how can i be sure the card is running at optimal performance?

Tom's Hardware ran Starcraft 2 benchmarks, and even a GTX 260 barely reached the viewable fps mark on max settings:

And under OS X graphics usually suffer more than on Windows.
Update: I just realized this is probably not the best site to say that..

Why ?
We try to be as objective as we possibly can :)

It's a bit annoying to have to install Windows only to play a game.
You can try Crossover Games: http://www.codeweavers.com/products/cxgames/ $39.95 with a free try-before-you-buy program...

It's an improved version of Linux's WINE...

I am not saying that the Crossover Games isn't a good product, but if you look over at WineHQ you will find that the development of Wine has become quite sophisticated and there are quite a few applications on their platinum and gold list (http://www.winehq.org/). The latest versions of wine run great under OSX. I would try out the Wine for OSX before I paid $40 bucks for a product that is basically the same thing. At least you will see if it is worth the money.
