Background
This is my second Hackintosh build. The system is a dual boot with Mountain Lion and Windows 7. Each system has a seperate SSD to work from. The system will mostly be used for photo editing tasks with adobe products (i.e., CS6 Ext and Lightroom), office (Word, Excel) and web browsing. I'm using a NAS (18 TB) for most of my storage.

I wanted to do some overclocking with this system this is why i bought the liquid cooling system from Corsair. I provided the H80 with other fans (Noiseblocker PL-2) in order to make it run a bit more quiet. The H80 is configured in an intake push/pull configuration.Because of space limitations a bought the Lian Li A05FN. A beautifll (small) ATX case that has enough room for all my components. I added a 140mm exaust fan on top of the case.

Installation
I followed the guides from Tonymacx86:
- UniBeast: Install OS X Mountain Lion on Any Supported Intel-based PC
http://www.tonymacx86.com/61-unibeast-install-os-x-mountain-lion-any-supported-intel-based-pc.html
- Quick guide to configuring the UEFI on Gigabyte's 7-series
http://www.tonymacx86.com/99-quick-guide-configuring-uefi-gigabyte-s-7-series-lga-1155-boards.html

Installation process
- The installation Went smooth. No problems at all (no extra boot flags).
- I did disconnect the second (win7) SSD just to be sure.
- I used an USB Keyboard and Mouse plugged in the USB 2.0 ports.
- I used a corsair voyager 8 gb USB 2.0 flash disk for the installation.

MultiBeast Configuration for Mountain Lion

29402-hackintosh-grotius-2-van-2.jpg

Windows 7

Installation process
This was messy. I had several problems with the USB 3.0 ports. In the end i had to use the USB 2 port and only add the USB in the second USB 2.0 port (problem solved). After installing all the latest drivers and updates.

SSD Tweaks
- Most is from this excellent guide (http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/70822-ssd-tweaks-optimizations-windows-7-a.html)
- I updated the firmware of the SanDisk Extreme SSD (R112 -> R201)
- to verify that TRIM is active. At a command prompt (start/run/cmd), type the following: " fsutil.exe behavior query DisableDeleteNotify"
It should respond back with DisableDeleteNotify=0 if trim support is ready and active. If it is not, type fsutil.exe behavior set DisableDeleteNotify 0
- Make sure the defrag program is disabled for the SSD... Admin tools/Services set Disk Defragmenter to disabled.
- Page File. There has been much debate about this. I left mine at 2 Gigs
- Superfetch/prefetch/bootfetch: Windows 7 does not always turn it all off as it should. A) To disable Superfetch, etc: Admin tools/Services. Select superfetch and set to disabled. B) Run regedit and change the following values: HKLM/System/CurrentControlset/Control/Session Manager/Memory Management/Prefetch Parameters and change the key valus of Enableboottrace, enableprefetcher, enablesuperfetch all to 0 and exit regedit.
- Now on to some things we can do to reduce some on the unnecessary writes to the SSD. Go to start/admin tools and select performance monitor. Expand data collector sets. Click on Startup Event Trace Sessions. With the exception of the following NECESSARY logs (Application, Security, System, Security Essentials) we can stop them from starting. To do so, right click on each one that has a status of Enabled (except the ones mentioned above) and select Properties. Click the Trace Session tab. Unselect Enabled. Click Ok. Repeat for the others (including readyboot). After your next boot, you will have a lot less writes going to the SSD that are not needed.
- Benchmark: HDTUNE (2.55 Free, Block 8mb): Minimum 410.5, Maximum 526.0, Average 514.5, 0.1 ms, 165.5 Burst.

Time sync in windows (synced time in OS X and windows 7)
1. Launch regedit.exe.
2.Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\TimeZoneInformation.
3.Create a new key called RealTimeIsUniversal (case-sensitive!)
4.Give the key a DWORD Value (displays as REG_DWORD) of 1

Overclocking

I followed the guides from Tonymacx86: http://www.tonymacx86.com/overclock...lock-z68-z77-power-management-ssdt-edits.html

After making my own settings i also tried easytune 6 (ET6) within windows 7. ET6 made some additional (auto) changes and my hackintosh clocks 4700 mhz with a 46x multiplier. The voltage is around 1.26. The system is stable after several hours of testing (LinX, Prime95 (win7 and os x version) and Intell burntest. The maximum temperature is 73 degrees celcius. Thanks to the OC i went from 14.200 to 17.442

Geekbench score: multiplier 46x

Very nice build. Looking at a very similar build. I use optical audio, have you tested that?
Next question, sleep, power management etc work?

Last question, do you advise to just get the pci x1 wifi card vs. buying the half card off ebay to use with the one that comes with the mother board?

- The PCI express cards works out-of-the-box and is a great addition to my Hackintosh. Buying a half card off ebay is not worth the hassle. The price difference for me was just to small for me (35 euro <-> 20 euro).
- Sleep etc works. I do not use it. My boot time is 25 seconds.
- Powermanagement: all sleep functions work.
- Optical: i do not have a stereo nearby to test it, sorry

Hi Grotius;
Very nice build! I'm building a very similar machine, ordered the parts through Tony's links, same MOBO, i7-3770, 2 SanDisk 120 SSD, 660Ti, and will be using OS ML and Win7.

Could you speak further about how you configured your boot drive, so that you choose either OS? It sounds like you loaded Win7 into the SSD without having your ML installed and connected. Any hints or links would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Regards

Hello,

I've seen this post and felt encouraged to buy the CBT2NANO USB Bluetooth dongle.
But it keeps disconnecting my Magic Mouse. Any tricks you may share?
