I have a Probook 4530s and I have installed latest Mountain Lion (10.8.2). I followed the guide here (http://www.tonymacx86.com/hp-probook/77057-guide-installing-mountain-lion-hp-probook.html)

I basically completed the install till step 14 and got Ak/AF HDD issue. To install Multibeast, I tried to boot the Mac using Unibeast USB and got a gray screen. After trying several options, I was able to login using -f -F -x GraphicsEnabler=No.

I installed following from Probook installer (step 14):
- 10.8.2 kext
- 4730s Standard DSDT
- i3-2330M SSDT
- MacbookPro 8,2 System definition
- AHCI Patch
- AHCI 3rd part kext
- Graphic Glitch Fix
- EDID generator
- Fn Combo off
- Color profiles
- Sleep image fix
- Brightness 100%
- Show all files
- Trim enabler

Now, I installed Multibeast with basic options (EasyBeast and UserDSDT) and followed the steps as mentioned on the page referred by the guide. I was able to get the boot screen and then when I tried to boot ML, I got the gray screen again. I have tried -f, -F, GraphicsEnabler=No and everything leads to the gray screen after loading completes with apple logo. I then tried -x, and was able to boot with safe mode.

Now, I am not sure what I need to correct/change at this point. Any help?

Update:
I am able to login normally. Here is what I did:

1) I logged in with the safe mode on
2) I replaced 'AppleIntelSNBGraphicsFB.kext' file in /System/Library/Extensions from the same named file in '/Desktop/Installer Backups/'.

Now, my resolution is only 1024x768. Tried some fixes by changing plist files but no success so far. Any ideas?

Use only the guide. Don't use Multibeast. The guide does not mention using Multibeast.

If I install with only Probook installer, I get boot0 error screen in start (Ak/AF HDD issue).

Also, if I try to boot with Unibeast USB in that case, I get a gray screen only and can only boot in safe mode.

boot0 error is covered in the guide. Step 15. Make sure you are following it carefully. You are not going to be able to fix boot0 error by using Multibeast -- follow the link in the guide and follow the instructions there.

Depending on what exactly you're seeing, this could be the AHCI issue. Also covered by the guide. Also step 15 (and 14).

Tried everything man. I have been trying to make it work best for three days now. Have installed/restored Mountain Lion more than dozen times in different experiments. Even manually installed/uninstalled kexts.

Truth is, the best performance I am getting is for the hackintosh I get till point 12 in guide. Yes, it needs boot from USB, but it does serve my purpose of XCode and Unity.

I will try to stick with it or get an actual mac somehow :)

Really appreciate your guide. It has definitely opened up new possibilities for me. Thanks a lot!

If you have an issue, post here with specifically what step you're on and what is not working.

Maybe I misunderstand. At step 12, OS X is still not installed...

Lets say step 13, basically I have Mountain Lion 10.8.2 running without Probook installer or Multibeast.

If I install Probook installer, I get boot0 issue. With this, if I try to boot using USB, I get gray screen after loading screen with Apple logo (with or without AHCI installs).

If I install Multibeast installer instead of Probook and follow steps to fix boot0 error, I get stuck at loading screen with Apple logo.

If I install Probook installer, restart machine and boot in safe mode (normal does not work). Then, on top of it I install Multibeast installer, I still get gray screen after loading screen with Apple logo.

I have tried different options available for Chimera like -f, -F, GraphicsEnabler=No, but no success.

So, basically I have followed steps, plus have tried several other variations too. But best I have is the Mountain Lion working without Probook/Multibeast.

If I install Probook installer, I get boot0 issue. With this, if I try to boot using USB, I get gray screen after loading screen with Apple logo (with or without AHCI installs).

First step to fixing the boot0 issue is to boot your Unibeast USB into the *OS X installer* (you start at step 4, as the other steps listed prior have already been done via Unibeast + OS X installer + Probook installer). So this is the same as first installing, but you're going into Disk Utility and Terminal instead of installing the OS.

As mentioned before, you don't use Multibeast with the Probook. The Probook installer is essentially a Probook specific Multibeast.

I have tried different options available for Chimera like -f, -F, GraphicsEnabler=No, but no success.

Fix your boot0 error first, then deal with the next problem after that. And at this point, in case it isn't obvious, you should do a fresh install, being sure either to repartition or erase the target partition before installing OS X.

It is possible that you will run into both the boot0 error (4k/AF disk), and the AHCI timing bug (certain drives exhibit this). But to find out you need to do boot0 fix first. Then attempt to boot from HDD. If you hang at the gray screen with a "stop sign," ("waiting for root device" if you boot with "-v")... then boot with "-f" (from HDD, not Unibeast USB) because this is the AHCI issue, which you can fix using the AHCI patch (in Probook Installer)

That is assuming, of course, that you made all the correct selections the first time running the Probook Installer...

Thanks for the reply. This actually looks like a flow I have not tried. Will give this a try.

Btw, I think I will be following the same Probook installer options as listed above. I hope it goes fine.

Will let you know once I try.
