Hello all and thanks in advance for your thoughts on my graphics card decision.

which card would be ideal for my situation?

1) GeForce GTX 550 Ti http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130625
2) GeForce GTX 560 Ti 1gb version http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130604
3) GeForce GTX 560 Ti 2gb version http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130683
4) GeForce GTX 670 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130782

i just dont have a clue as to what will be adequate for my projects or if i would see the benefit from spending $400ish on the 670. Would utilizing the pci 3.0 slot be worth it (for the 670)?

background:
- this will be my first build
- i am not a gamer what so ever
- I am a heavy user of photoshop, illustrator CS5 (everyday basis). I also use after effects and final cut pro on a occasional project for clients (but not every day or very intensively).

the rest of my build will contain (most likely):
- Intel Core i7-3770K
- GA-Z77X-UP5-TH or UP4 (this is a hard one as well!)
- crucial m4 256GB SSD
- 2 TB HHD
- 500 MB HHD
- G5 case with mountain mod mobo tray
- corsair ax650 psu
- corsair vengeance 16gb 1600mhz DDR3 ram
- mountain lion os
- two older dvi apple 23" cinema displays

Thanks so much all!

Well, buy the GTX 670 if you can afford it. I can't say anything. :)

My XFX 6870 can handle all of my Photoshop work easily. Even my bigger PSD files (over 500MB and more then 5 of them) is no problem at the same time.

If you need the additional CUDA cores for After Effects (Google will be a better answer then my opinion) then go for a 550TI or 560TI. You don't really need a GTX 670, but you could buy one and send it to me :p:D

Thanks for your info Coupz, as i was originally going to with a 6870 because it seemed more compatible in previous recommended builds... now with the latest invidia options , i didnt know where i stood (outside of price).

Well if you go with a 560TI, then I would choose between these 2:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127608

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127615

One of these has 2GB and the other one is the 448 cores edition. You will have to look with Google which one performs better with Adobe apps. The Twin Frozr Edition should be the coolest and most silent version out there. I have a different cooler on my XFX 6870 and can't even hear the GPU.

If you need some testing with Photoshop (in terms of filters etc.) drop me a pm with a PSD file or what you want to see, I'll try to make a video for you. :)

hey thanks coupz! you are great. i guess i didnt think of researching other brands, thinking the evga was more supported with hackintoshes or something (because they were on the customac page). just shows my lack of knowledge on the subject! i did check out the benchmark score between them and it looks like the more cores the faster (instead of more ram). but then again i am not sure what adobe products need most out of a gpu. http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/330?vs=499

ah thanks... these links are great as i am getting more up to speed on what i am looking for in a card. now to toss in an alternative option. since i am not in a huge hurry on purchasing a card, do you think it would be wise to wait for 660 or 660 ti that is speculated to come out this month? seems like they expect it to be in the $250 - $350 price range (which is similar to the price range of the two 560 ti cards that you suggested). here is the link to some info that thelostswede posted recently. http://www.tonymacx86.com/88-more-geforce-gtx-660-ti-details-leak.html

I'd go with a 5xx card vs a 6xx card as the 6xx cards were built for gaming and not so much as much for general computing. At least in GPU rendering I know that the GTX 580 beats the GTX 680 hands down.
