Hi
I would like to upgrade my perfect 18 month old hackintosh
now I've a 3770k, 32 gb ram, ssd and a sapphire 5670 1gb ddr5
the 5670 is old but fanless
any idea for a new silent gpu?
looking around I've found this

Gainward GTX770 2GB Phantom

is it compatible like normal 770?
other suggestion? priority is very low noise!

thanks

It should probably work - you should be aware that it does have three internal fans. The Gigabyte Windforce models are reasonably quiet as well just to give you some other options.

thank you very much!
what are other options of Gigabyte Windforce?
I was interested in
Gigabyte Windforce, but I read around that Gainward is more silent because of the 3 particular fans
even with less power, I'm interested in
compatibly OOB and the most silent possible
thanks

Moving to slightly different options. Water block cooling is an option on some GPU cards. You remove the heatsink and fan system and fit an after market liquid cooling block - works like the liquid CPU coolers.

On the GTX 750 & GTX 750Ti models you will be able to find passive versions without any fans. Here is a few I found quickly using google:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-003-TL
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Palit/GTX_750_Ti_KalmX/

http://www.hardwareluxx.com/index.p...st-three-semipassive-geforce-gtx-750-ti-.html

The Asus Strix models work with OS X:

I believe that the new GTX 960 & GTX 970 models have been delayed until spring 2015. There may be some passive options that appear with these new models.

Please remember that the GTX 750 & GTX 750Ti models require the NVIDIA drivers to be downloaded from NVIDIA to work in Yosemite at this point in time. There is as yet no native OS X support.

Water block cooling could be nice
but looking around I found out 770 have power management issue
and 750 have not compatibility for mavericks and for
Yosemite needs driver

any decent card 2gb ddr5, also older, that is silent and fully OOB working?

thank you very much!

Don't rule out cards with 1 GB GDDR5 RAM either - they are fine for a single 1080P screen. You are now looking at GTX 660 and below versions of compatible cards that are available to you as passive cooling versions. For some ideas of the best cards to look at be sure and use this older buyers guide for a wider range on compatible models for Mavericks:
http://www.tonymacx86.com/416-building-customac-buyer-s-guide-march-2014.html#gfx_cards

You can also add the GT 740 Dual slot version with GDDR5 RAM. NVIDIA have made three different specifications of the GT 740.

Other working solutions available come from AMD - the HD7770 was popular and worked well. Passive versions were available. The HD 7770 is now discontinued - it is now rebranded to fit the AMD model line up. It is now called the R7 250X

Be careful of the AMD models and be sure that you can find other people using these cards - that 'X' suffix can be extremely important! All the AMD cards will require the boot loader and Extra folder to be installed to the EFI partition to let you boot for the installation SSD/HDD. You can use your USB install thumb drive in the short term to boot:
