Gigabyte Z490 Vision D (Thunderbolt 3) + i5-10400 + AMD RX 580

This thread inspired me to order the parts to build a new hackintosh. I will be using a 10900kf, 64gb (4x16) Ripjaws and a 5700 xt Nitro+. Not a big fan of AIO coolers, so I had ordered the Noctua NH-D15. Luckily I saw this and was able to cancel the Noctua and changed to a Dark Rock Pro 4 before it shipped. Thank you for the info!
I've become quite a fan of BeQuiet. However, after watching a couple of very positive head-to-head fan comparisons, I plan to replace the 140mm Silent Wings 2 fans (that came with the case) with Arctic P14s. Not that the Silent Wings are objectionable, but the P14s are substantially cheaper, are PWM fans, and are even quieter.

Ok, could you recommend a better SSD instead of 970 EVO Plus?
I'll search suitable cooler to buy instead of NH-D15
I'm using WD SN750. Other people in this thread are using Sabrent Rocket, AData. Most SSDs should work. See the forum's Buyer's Guide, SSD section.
Because I place a priority on value-for-the-money, I have the following NVMe SSDs, but none made by Samsung:
  • Silicon Power
  • ADATA
  • Sabrent
I've not experienced any boot/POST issues and can populate all three NVMe slots without any trouble.

Not sure if this has been covered, but it seems that enabling the i225 2.5Gb Ethernet no longer requires FakePICIID; it can be injected as a device property. See attached. Credit: Dortania Guide.

Fixed > cant user user credentials, but guest account works by enable the guest account sharing

D GPUs will be detected and listed in BIOS Setup, but when connecting a monitor to those GPUs, neither BIOS splash screen nor OpenCore boot menu will be displayed. This problem may be due to issues in the VBIOS of the GPU. A workaround is to enable CSM Support in BIOS Setup.

Hi
Thanks for the guide
Everything works for me perfectly

Except for one thing
And I'll be happy if we can solve it

As a video editor, fast playback is important to me
And Intel's Quick Sync is important to work just like a iMac

Currently installed according to your guide
As you can see in the attached picture
The gfx req stands at 0.33
It should stand at 1.20 (or more?)

Screen Shot 2020-08-16 at 10.57.13.png

In my Hackintosh based 8700K
I manage to get exactly 1.20 (attach photo)
Which makes Playback in the Final Cut much faster

I would be very happy to help with this issue
It will make the z490 Hackintosh the most perfect!

Hey
I'm planning to buy a new PC and to dual boot Windows for gaming and macOS for programming
So I just wanted to make sure my components are compatible and that it would be suitable for this guide before I order :)

Thanks!
970 Evo Plus is known to take longer for booting in macOS. The latest firmware fixed the ability to use it but it still has longer boot times (1m vs 30s) compared to other SSDs.

NH-D15 is incompatible with Vision D - https://noctua.at/en/mainboard/Gigabyte_Z490_Vision_D
It blocks the first PCIe slot which might be a deal breaker for hackintoshing (now or in the future)

Hey, my friend helped me make a few changes to my build according to your recommendations, What do you guys think?

@emistral Good to know I'm not the only one!

Is it only the WD that makes the #3 slot not work? Have you tried with one of the EVO's in the #3 slot and the WD in #1 or 2?

Are you able to link the PCIEx4 NVMe card you ended up using, just in case I have to go that route?
If I remove the WD SSD, I can install the EVO+ drive in any M2 slots on the MB, no issue. But I have only 2 EVO+ SSDs. If I had a third one I am not sure if that would cause the pb.
I think the pb is the combination of EVO+ and WD. Even if I have only 1 EVO+ installed, as soon as I add the WD (regardless of the solt), I can't post or boot.

Regarding the card, thisnis what I bought:
I initially thought that it was 2 x M2 NVMe M key but in fact it is only 1 X NVMe M2 M key and one B key.

The WD is installed on that card and I have left the slot #3 empty so that the full bandwidth is allocated to the WD.

How is the boot time measured? I can not confirm the numbers, I am using a 970 Evo Plus 1TB and it takes 32 seconds from boot drive selector to MacOS login screen.

Manually using a stopwatch but from boot to usable desktop. For filevault, from password entry to usable desktop. I'm going off of based on multiple reports of people in multiple forums and r/hackintosh of slow boot times with 970 Evo+. You can use the drive well after boot but booting was slow for multiple people compared to other drives. Might have changed in 10.15.5/6.

Don't use AIOs so no idea about their compatibility or performance. Everything else looks fine.

In generally the mac part of the hackintosh runs slightly hotter than the windows part. Using a deepcool assassin 3 air cooler, I average 35C in idle in mac compared to 32-33C in Windows. If you are overclocking or undervolting, macos requires slightly higher voltage than Windows (I saw this both in my X99 and z490 system). For current Z490 and 10700k, Windows is stable at 5 Ghz @ 1.25V while macOS requires 1.27V. Consequently, mac under load is also hotter (85C vs 82C)

On the flip side, macOS generally completes work faster than Windows.

So whether the AIO is enough or not is depended upon your use case, your usage patterns and your preferred noise levels.
