Hi,

I’ve been away from the Hackintosh scene for a little while but have just got into it again.

I am struggling to make a bootable backup of My Big Sur and Monterey SSDs using Carbon Copy Cloner. I have followed step 13 of the build instructions but have not had any success yet.

I have observed that there are less files present in the backup than there were in the original install media. For example, in the Applications folder there are several files missing in the backup.

This always worked fine previously with Catalina.

Could someone kindly explain if there have been subtle file system changes between older versions of macOS and more recent versions?

Apologies if this is covering old ground.

I was also considering using Disk Cloning Hardware such as

or

Has anyone had any experience with this kind of hardware or is it of no use for macOS?

Hi it is indeed more difficult since Big Sur (Google it you will have countless topics!)
I use Super Duper (free), and it works with only one click (bootable clone).
You should have a try...

There is an updated CCC guide by Casey in his Z690 Golden Build. Step #11

What's your view on the use of the Hardware Disk Cloning Devices that I suggested?

If they do a full copy, sector by sector, I suppose it would work.
But why bother with extra hardware when one could use dd for the same result?
