Gigabyte Z390 M Gaming build with working NVRAM

Hi @pastrychef,
And hello everyvody!

I’ve try Big Sur 11.13 and 11.13.1 (update and clean install) but with these 2 versions my hackintosh freeze after 1or 2 minutes (nvme kernel panic)
Never had this pb before...
(I’m running osx on an NVMe Samsung 970 Evo on last firmware 2B2QEXE7)

After lots of kexts tests (NVMEfix,...), I remove my dGPU just to try (Sapphire RX580 Nitro+) -> no more kernel panic...

So I install again 11.13 (and 11.13.1 to try also with it) but this time I deactivate the card in BIOS -> kernel panic again in the 2 versions.

I remove the card from the slot, boot again and -> everything work.

I reinstall Big Sur 11.2.3, put the dGPU back in -> everything work.

I don’t understand why it works on 11.2.3 and not after? Does Apple remove some files in 11.3? Why a dGPU make my nvme panic?

Does someone with the same config encounter this pb?
Sorry for my poor english.

hope someone could help,
Thanks!
I have a similar configuration, it works perfectly on MacOS 11.2.3, but at 11.3 it crashes in the 7 min of the last reboot of the installation.
Having to restart manually, and it gets into MacOS but then crashes.
I did the mapping of the USB and it still crashes.
And when I get back to 11.2.3, it works perfectly.
Some topics say it could be my Titan Ridge Thunderbolt 3.
I don't know what to do anymore?

Here is my configuration:

Intel - Core i9-9900K 3.6 GHz 8-Core Processor
Noctua - NH-U12A CPU Cooler
Gigabyte - Z390 M GAMING Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
Corsair - Vengeance LPX 64GB (4 x 16 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory
2x Samsung - 970 Evo Plus 500 GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive
5x Seagate Ironwolf 4TB HDD
Gigabyte Radeon RX VEGA 56 8 GB Video Card
GC-Titan Ridge Thunderbolt 3
2x Dell UltraSharp U2419H
1x LG 32” 4K UK550
Corsair - RM850x 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power

Does the update complete if you pull the Thunderbolt card?

I haven't tested it yet.
But I saw on the github of a person with the same hardware, he said he had to remove it.

"Known Issues
  • Big Sur seems to break the support for Apple TV+ DRM. Ref WEG WEG Ref
  • Multiple key press to wake from sleep with bluetooth (known issue with Gigabyte Gaming X or M boards)
  • TB3 card removed, 11.3 caused 'Kernel Panic' issue."

There were no changes to the kexts installed on the config.plist.

Is your USB fix working? When you look in IORegistryExplorer, is there only 15 active ports?

Yes, I'm using a USBPorts kext that I made ages ago, back in Catalina. It looks like it is still correct in OC 0.6.9 and showing 15 port in IORegistryExplorer and Hackintool.

Do you think it's a USB problem? I could try remapping them.

Interesting... I pulled my Thunderbolt card a long time ago due to lack of any Thunderbolt devices so I can't test it with macOS 11.3...

DRM is working fine for me in Big Sur including Apple TV+ and Amazon Prime Videos.

If IORegistryExplorer is showing just 15 ports, you should be fine and there's no need to re-do the mapping.

I don't know what else can be the problem.

Ok - thanks, and I’ll keep plugging away at it. Maybe it will be fixed in 0.7.0

I haven't tested installing 11.3 without TB3 yet.
But the github link informs this issue.
I use an M.2 SSD with TB3, so I don't know how to proceed.

Your internal M.2 slots are already in use?

Maybe try installing 11.3 on a standard SSD with the Thunderbolt card pulled to see if that is indeed what's causing your problems?

I am currently using the two M.2 slots, one Samsung 970 Evo Plus for Windows and the other for MacOS, but this SSD M.2 TB3 is a VM that I use a lot.
