Make sure your speakers are connected to the green audio out on the rear of the motherboard and in System Preferences > Sound, try all the audio out options.
Ok, so there are 5 entries in the list; the first one is the rear panel audio that, when selected, works. The second one is headphone which is my front panel audio.
I assumed Mac would be smart enough to know which port I plugged it into and change the output source. That does not appear to be the case (I assume because they've never had more than one audio out jack?). Just gotta pick my port and select the proper output source when I want to use it?
