@pastrychef You've been a great help thanks for all your work. I'm upgrading from i5 9600k to i9 9900k today. Do I need to change anything in smbios before or after the hardware swap?

I have reduced it to 2667 in BIOS and so far I haven't had any issue....I'll keep You posted

Yes, I believe that for many years the fastest memory Apple supported was 2133/2667 etc. Now, only the higher-end Mac Pros go to 2933.

@LinustVitas, I saw that you are using an RX 5700 XT, what do you think of the performance?
I need to change my Vega 56, and I was thinking of getting an RX 6800XT, but here in Brazil they are very expensive, so I'm considering taking the 5700XT.

I like it. it works great, not the best, but it's good enough to play the games that I want

If it weren't for the unrealistic price here in Brazil, and the lack of stock, I would take the RX 6800 XT, but I also learned that the graphics acceleration isn't working in Big Sur yet.
I'm thinking about getting the 5700XT, I even thought about getting the Frontier or VII, but this is the same price as a 6800.

No. Just swap out the CPU.

It seems that in beta 11.1 there was information about RDNA 2 in the source code, let's wait.
But it is more reliable to get a RX 5700XT that already works, than to get the current one and not have a forecast.

OpenCore EFI updated to version 0.6.4.

All kexts updated to latest release versions.

Please test EFI on USB flash drive before deleting your existing EFI.

It is recommended that you clear NVRAM several times at the OpenCore boot menu then reset/shutdown before booting in to macOS.

I gave 0.6.4 a try and found that I lost sleep. Monitor will go off but no further. Upon mouse click I don't even get the password screen.

I did reset the NVRAM.
