Comments
Decided it was time to upgrade my old Z97 / i5 4690 / GTX 760 2GB system to something more modern.

Installation

Many Thanks to @muk546, @shark7760 & @monsterz excellent build guides, which I followed and the below worked for me...

BIOS
(upgraded version F8 first)
  1. Save & Exit → Load Optimized Defaults
  2. M.I.T. → Advanced Memory Settings Extreme Memory Profile(X.M.P.) : Profile 1
  3. BIOS → Fast Boot : Disabled
  4. BIOSCMS Support: Disabled
  5. BIOS → LAN PXE Boot Option ROM : Disabled
  6. Peripherals → Super IO Configuration → Serial Port : Disabled
  7. Peripherals → USB Configuration → XHCI Hand-off : Enabled
  8. Chipset → Vt-d : Disabled

Installation
After creating a Mojave boot stick via Unibeast 9.0, I booted up and formatted my system disk to APFS as I was getting a not enough disk space error if trying to install on a HFS+ formatted drive, took 15 to 20mins to install, after install was completed I ran MultiBeast 11.0.1 and used the below settings

  1. Quick Start > Clover UEFI Boot Mode
  2. Drivers > Audio > AppleALC
  3. Drivers > Misc > FakeSMC
  4. Drivers > Misc > FakeSMC Plugins
  5. Drivers > Network > Intel > IntelMausiEthernet v2.4.0
  6. Drivers > USB > Remove XHCI USB Port Limit
  7. Drivers > USB > USBInjectAll (if do not have your own custom USB kext for your system)
  8. Customize > System Definitions > iMac > iMac 18,3
When this is done I rebooted and downloaded the latest version of Clover using the options below... followed by another reboot....

357381357382

When this is done I downloaded the following latest kexts and using KextBeast installed them into /Library/Extensions
  • AppleALC
  • Lilu
  • USBPorts * (4th November 2018 Update)
  • WhateverGreen
  • NoVPAJpeg-v1.0.0-built-with-Lilu
What Works
  • RX580 OOB (was a better experience installing mac os than using a GTX 760, and seems smother while using the system as well)
  • All USB 2.0 & 3.0 Ports (3.1 Ports not tested)
  • Audio from rear speaker port on Z370 Board and headphone port on front of my case
  • Ethernet
  • both NVMe PCIe SSD's
  • App Store
  • Quicklook (make sure if your using iMac 18,3 with internal graphics disabled your using the NoVPAJpeg.kext)

Not Tested / Used
  • Messages
  • Siri
  • iTunes
  • FaceTime
  • Sleep

Update 1: - August 2018
  • Updated BIOS to Version F8, re-entered settings again - No problems found so far.
  • Found slight blue tint around text when using DisplayPort on the RX580, problem seems to have gone when using a HDMI cable, tested DP in windows and ubuntu and I don't have the problem so would seem to be a driver problem, but happy using HDMI as I only use 1 monitor.
  • Swapped out the H80i v2 for a CoolerMaster Evo 212 and the Corsair 400Q case with a CoolerMaster H500, the H500 provides better case cooling as the RX580 seems to run a bit hotter than my old GTX760.
  • All the usb 2.0 and 3.0 ports seem to work, with 3.0 ports running at correct speed, but under USB Device Tree, only getting USB 3.0 Bus and 3.1 Bus, No 2.0 Bus....
  • Updated Lilu.kext to v1.2.6, AppleALC.kext to v1.3.1 & Clover_v2.4k_r4630

Update 2: - 29th September 2018
  • Downloaded Mojave from the app store and created a bootable usb with Clover_2.4k_r4674, performed a clean install of Mojave (seems more straight forward than High Sierra)
  • Installed Clover_2.4k_r4674, used MultiBeast 10.4 to install network and System Definitions (18,3), uploaded Lilu.kext (v1.2.7), AppleALC.kext (v1.3.2) USBinjectAll.kext / XHCI-300-series-injector.kext and NoVPAJpeg.kext (v1.0) and Audio works without running audio_cloverALC-130_command file, graphics works fine and I'm able to get quicklook / preview not to hand with the NoVPAJpeg.kext, after reading other users builds I have also added the WhateverGreen.kext (v1.2.3) as well.
  • Was able to get all usb ports working by uploading the latest RehabMan OS0X-USB-Inject-All kext files and with by adding the following in clover config...
  • Comment: USB Port limit patch 10.14 (credits FredWst)

  • so far all seems ok for me, have also uploaded my latest config.plist (serial and model details missing)

Update 3: - 11th October 2018
  • Did a full wipe and re-install as was not happy for some reason
  • re-done my Installation guide which worked for me, but might not work for you.
  • uploaded latest config.plist (I have removed my serial number from the config)

Update 4: - 4th November 2018
  • After reading about other users usb problems after updating to 10.14.1, did some reading and using the https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/release-intel-fb-patcher-v1-5-9.254559/ I was able to create a USBPorts.kext for my system, I then removed the USB Port limit patch from my config.plist and removed USBInjectAll.kext, rebooted and ports still worked, updated to 10.14.1 and ports still working.
  • After updating to 10.14.1 I lost sound, after reading the forum, I found that some users state you should put AppleALC, Lilu & WhateverGreen in Library/Extensions using KextBeast, did this, rebooted and back to normal again.
  • re-done my Installation guide again, adding to above points into it
  • uploaded latest efi folder (serial number missing from config.plist)

Update 5: - 20th February 2019
  • Re-done my Installation guide again, due to having some crash problems with Internal and External graphics enabled, but as I don't need the UHD630 graphics when the RX580 does what I need (you might not get the same problems I had)
  • Updated to latest AppleALC, Lilu & WhateverGreen, followed by Clover before updating to 10.14.3
  • tried to update BIOS to version F11b but was unable to get the system to boot so went back down to F8
  • I have uploaded my latest EFI folder and my USBPorts.kext (USBPorts.kext might not fully work for you due to the amount of ports on my case)

Update 6: - 14th May 2019

Update 7: - 27th July 2019
  • Updated to latest AppleALC, Lilu & WhateverGreen, stayed on Clover r4961
  • Performed Update to 10.14.6 via software update, rebooted 3 times with main part of install with blank screen.
  • performed update from Clover r4961 to r5018, the newer r5 version of clover has a different folder layout... selected the following in the software..
Update 8: - January - May 2020
  • Installed Fenvi FV-T919 card
  • Updated BIOS to F13
  • Performed Clean install using iMacPro1,1 using just the RX580 and disabling UHD630 graphics from 10.14.6 to 10.15.3, adding AirportBrcmFixup kext
  • Updated to 10.15.4 moving all kexts to Clover\kexts\other
  • Updated to 10.15.4 Supplemental Update
  • Updated to Clover 5116 and all kexts to latest using Kext Updater
  • Uploaded May 2020 EFI Folder (Missing USB Port Config and Serial Number details)
Update 9: - June - July 2020
  • Updated to 10.15.5
  • Updated to 10.15.5 Supplemental Update
  • Updated to Clover 5119 and all kexts to latest using Kext Updater
  • Installed OpenCore 0.5.9 and removed Clover 5119
  • Uploaded my OpenCore 0.5.9 EFI folder which I use for my MacOS install USB Pen and (edited) for my boot disk very easy to follow guide (I use the default iMac19,1 for the usb install and a 2nd version with my iMacPro1,1 and serial details for my boot disk with -v turned off in the boot flags & my USB Port mappings)

Bless your soul. I've spent over a month trying to get audio to work for headphone jack. Followed audio_cloverALC-130.command and worked like a charm! Thanks for sharing!

Have you had any issues with USB 3.0 USBs or hard drives? I try to connect my external hard drive to the machine and it won't get recognized.
Did you have the same issue? Any resolution?

Download a text editor for code, like PyCharm or Sublime:

Sublime Build 3176
or
PyCharm - Download the Community version (right side) as it's free.

Now get to your config.plist file through Clover Configurator
  • Right click config.plist and open with either Sublime or PyCharm (whichever you downloaded)
  • press 'command + F' to search the code for "KextsToPatch" to take you to the sectionScreen Shot 2018-08-12 at 11.13.09 PM.png
  • Copy and paste the code from #115 after <array>
  • Screen Shot 2018-08-12 at 11.16.51 PM.png
*Note in the image, that's not the actual code from the link, I was just showing where to place it

Second Mackintosh Build:
Gigabyte Z370-HD3P - i7-8700K - RX 580

...

Could you upload your config.plist file. I got everything working and some how damaged my config file.

No issues yet with any USB 3.0 drives, did you perform the 10.13.6 USB patch ?

Thank you so much! I have installed 10.13.6 successful. But I can't use the USB 3.0. I viewed your post link about USB 3.0, but I don't know where to input the code...could you please tell me where to input the code ?

All I did was open config.plist in Clover Config, go into text mode, scroll down to the KextsToPatch section, and at the bottom add the code, then perform a Synchronize at the bottom of the window to confirm all is ok, reboot your machine and your good to go.

I have added my latest config file at the bottom of post 1

Was using the wrong patch apparently, here's the link to the fix for anyone else following your post with same issue:
#1978

Thanks again m8!

Hello!

First of all, thanks for the Build! Everything seems to work OOB the only thing is, sometimes I'm getting A Kernel Panic error ( seems to be caused by Google Chrome ) and my PC Shuts down. Any Ideas what the Problem could be?

Thanks,
Tom
