Gigabyte X79 UD5 LGA 2011 Installation Guide:

Rule #1 Follow Stork's Guide Always!!

That is the only rule ; )

Download the latest version of UniBeast 3 & MultiBeast 6 for Mavericks;

Log into the Apple MAS and download Mavericks;

Prepare the UniBeast USB thumb drive using (of course) UniBeast 3.0, but don't run it yet;

Put MultiBeast for Mavericks on your UniBeast USB thumb drive;

Now, repair Permissions on your current OS X drive using the Disk Utility on the drive to be updated;*

Backup your current system with Time Machine or Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper;

Insert the UniBeast USB thumb drive and reboot;

****Please note I have GTX 650Ti Video Card in the far right slot closest to the CPU so you night need to change a boot flag if you have a different video card..etc.

Installation boot flag I used:

"-v -x GraphicsEnabler=No npci=0x3000 cpus=1"

Here is a rundown of the MultiBeast 6.0.0 settings that worked on my UD5 X79 with GTX650ti:

1: Adjust org.chameleon.Boot.plist in the string in the <string>darkwake=0 </string> line to include "npci=0x2000"like so <string>darkwake=0 npci=0x2000</string>"

2: Bootloaders > Install Latest Chimera

3: Drivers > Disk > 3rd Party SATA

4: Drivers > Audio 898 (without DSDT)

5: Drivers > Network > hnak for network

6: Drivers > Disk > Trim enabler 10.9 (if you have ssd - I do have a OCZ Vertex 4 and love it)

7: Drivers > System > AppleACPIPlatform Rollback =10.8.1 Rollback

8: Drivers > Misc > USB 3.0 -Universal

9: Customize > Boot Options > Instant Menu

10: Customize > SDDT Options > Sandy Bridge Core i7

11: Customize > GraphicsEnabler=No since I could not boot properly without using that boot flag (Don't worry about this with latest Multibeast)

12: Repair disk permissions with disk utility

Everything works flawlessly -sound,network, ssd - I have RME Fireface 800 audio hardware so I don't mess with on board audio anyway.

Rebooted and it runs just fine now.

Just FYI here is my working org.chameleon.Boot.plist in case someone else updates the UD5 X79 board to 10.9:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
<plist version="1.0">
<dict>
<key>EthernetBuiltIn</key>
<string>Yes</string>
<key>GraphicsEnabler</key>
<string>No</string>
<key>Kernel</key>
<string>mach_kernel</string>
<key>Kernel Flags</key>
<string>darkwake=0 npci=0x2000</string>
<key>Legacy Logo</key>
<string>Yes</string>
<key>Instant Menu</key>
<string>Yes</string>
<key>UseKernelCache</key>
<string>Yes</string>
</dict>
</plist>

This was way easier than the 10.8.5 update - however the 10.8.5 update is the same for mavericks. Really appreciate everyones help!!

If anyone gets stuck with this board and gets stuck please message me. Will do what I can to help you out. Also if this helped you or messed you up please let em know.

I wish I would have seen this the other day..

I just posted success too, but you have some things I haven't tried.

Going to try and optimize it out with this info..

Great guide and thanks for your posting !

Hello
Thanks for the guide
But I am not sure how to do the Ethernet part at the end of your guide

Also what's the difference for npci=0x2000 and npci=0x3000?
======

Actually by following 100% of this guide
I don't get sound no Ethernet and no Bluetooth
What am I doing wrong please ?

======
I change the boot flag from npci=0x3000 to 0x2000
Now I got sound and network

I still have 2 problems
Bluetooth. It detects the hardware but not usable
Reboot . Stuck at a grey screen and nothing happens

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback guys!

"I still have 2 problems

Reboot . Stuck at a grey screen and nothing happens"

I do not use bluetooth on my rig - that's why I did not included it - however I have seen a few posts to get bluetooth working on this board with the included PCI bluetooth card that comes with it. Some people get the cheap bluetooth usb adapter.

If I recall you need to dual boot to windows - install pci card on windows 1st, then mac can see the card. USB bloothtooth would be fastest way.

In regards to being stuck at the grey screen make sure you run multibeast and then complete a repair disk permission in disk utility.

Also double check your org.chameleon.Boot.plist before rebooting. If you did this properly it should reboot fine every time, and not get stuck at grey screen. Getting stuck at grey screen - your org.chameleon.Boot.plist might have npci=0x3000 not "npci=0x2000" as it should be.

Just FYI here is my working org.chameleon.Boot.plist in case someone else updates the UD5 X79 board to 10.9:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
<plist version="1.0">
<dict>
<key>EthernetBuiltIn</key>
<string>Yes</string>
<key>GraphicsEnabler</key>
<string>No</string>
<key>Kernel</key>
<string>mach_kernel</string>
<key>Kernel Flags</key>
<string>darkwake=0 npci=0x2000</string>
<key>Legacy Logo</key>
<string>Yes</string>
<key>Instant Menu</key>
<string>Yes</string>
<key>UseKernelCache</key>
<string>Yes</string>
</dict>
</plist>

Hope that helps you some. Were you able to get the bluetooth, and or reboot to work on yours? PM me as I don't always check in here.

Thanks,

Hey hey hey
I am back with new issues hehe

Answer to your olds question

I did check it is npci=0x2000, if I set to npci=0x3000 Ethernet and sound icon will disappeared

=======

New issues

My BIOS reset few days ago I did some dump things perhaps
Now my sound is now working . Is shows no hardware inside sound options
(Before BIOS reset) I notice that not every time I get sound when I boot up
I need to reinstall the 2 kext HDAEnabler898.kext and AppleHDA.kext then restart to get my sound working again
But today . Didn't work anymore

Did I did some dumb things? Suck as below
Install steam to play games (got rocksmith2014 yey)
Installed logmein and splashtop
But I tried de-install both remote software and re-install both kext still no hardware found
( got the sound icon on task bar . Just no hardware was detected)

Oh no . No rock smith for me now
:(

Oh another note
If I goto about this Mac -> System Report ->Audio
I do see my sound hardware
Intel high definition audio
SPDIF
line output
Ext mic
Ext mic
Headphone
SPDIF

Which guide of storks are you talking about? I can't find it...

I believe he's talking about my installation guide for installing Mavericks over Mountain Lion 10.8.5 located here. While the step-by-step procedure can be applied to any motherboard system, the MultiBeast audio and Ethernet kexts/drivers are for my Z68X-UD3H motherboard. However, I have use this same step-by-step procedure on my other systems, too, just changing the Multibeast drivers according to the motherboard chipset.
