@dolgarrenan Hi! Thanks for the modified SmallTree kext, that's amazing if it works well in Catalina.

I won't have time to work on the system for a little while, as it's stable and functional now in Mojave as intended. I'll get back asap, though.

I had multiple 1820A's and all three were damaged in their own way, either physically visible or internally (crashes / no BlueTooth), so I really hope to step off them. DW15xx are just expensive right now compared to a year or two before.
Well, things will be here once you get back on track, and hopefully better! I can confirm that DW1820A works no probs, so just get a hold of one that works and forget about paying extra for DW1560.
Well too bad then, and quite odd that this Intel chip is somehow locked.

Your attached ST kext is not 10.15, right?
It's not an official release for 10.15 (I think at this stage there will never be one tbh), but it works as intended. I have it running on two machines atm and no problems so far, you might have to delete Networkingdevices.plist in order to reload all devices but that is as far a trouble I have come across.

So where are you now with the X299X board and Catalina? Have you got a successful install now that you have got past the Thunderbolt and X550T issues. Did you have a working Mojave previously?

I'm about to purchase this board and am keenly watching your pioneering progress!

Hello @neilpercy! We are at a point where everything is working but there is still some performance/stability tests to do. I'm using this setup as a daily driver and so far I have come across only TB related issues.

One of the two I have built is in my music studio and I have it linked to a Apollo 8X via TB 3.. The machine runs fine, but I have encountered that while using Sonarworks utility to level my studio some weird crashes related to TB appear, also If i unplug and re-plug this particular TB device the machine just throws a KP and restarts itself.

It is a mixture of too many things attached to the computer and perhaps bad TB ACPI Implementation.

Other devices like a LaCie 1TB external TB2 drive work as expected, but for some reason the audio card is giving me a bit of hell tbh.

Perhaps as more people adopts this board problems will be solved, but like I said, so far that is the only problem I am facing.

I have to note that I migrated my main SO to a x4 Samsung 970 EVO Plus (with the problems they had ) RAID 0 using CCC on the provided Aorus PCIe RAID card and booted from an alternative drive's EFI. System was somehow running but all this mess it might just be for messing around too much.

macOS is not meant to run from a RAID array.

I would go for the mobo no probs, I would just try to stay away from the lower end CPU like 108xx in case they suffer from APIC issues like the previous 9800X and so (although fixable, a pain if you don't know what is going on).

Thanks dolgarrenan, glad to hear everything is working well, although it sounds very annoying about your TB audio interface!

When you mention the Asus thread do you mean the Catalina x299 thread, was this your starting point? I haven't been involved in the hackintosh world for 10 years so I am definitely in need of some sort of 'guide'.

Also , is yours a Clover install or OpenCore?

cheers,

neil

I know, really a pain. Hopefully somehow we will manage to make a more stable SSDT for TB in the near future.

Not quite, I have been active for some long time, so everything I have done "mostly" is based on my own research and trial/error.. I wanted to participate in the Asus post but my post was deleted when I asked about my issue with this board, so I assumed whoever runs that post must have asked an admin to delete the post to keep it all things Asus, and I understand, its totally ok, thats why I decided to open this post and see where it goes.

I am happy so far, initial problem has been solved so now is really down to polish whatever we think is not entirely right and just move on.

If you want a good place to start, I'd go to @kgp post about "building your own iMacPro" has tons of posts and some good insight.

I am on Clover 5103 atm, I could switch to OC (which I might do in the near future) but right now I feel there is more info around about CL issues. The one user I know runs his build on OC with a Gigabyte board is no longer active, so not many GB OC users around I think.

Be careful with OC on a C621 motherboard. You've got a Gigabyte, so you might be okay but I have an Asus and it's been hell trying to get it to boot properly in a multiboot os environment. The OC Devs are of the opinion that the C621 NVRAM implementation isn't compatible with their "design decisions".....it must mimic Apple completely or too bad for you....

But, with the Gigabyte, maybe you won't hit the roadblocks I hit....

Here's an example of what is wrong: https://github.com/acidanthera/bugtracker/issues/580
Both in terms of the problem with some C621 motherboards, and with the attitudes of the OC Devs......

Hello @mm2margaret

Be careful with OC on a C621 motherboard. You've got a Gigabyte, so you might be okay but I have an Asus and it's been hell trying to get it to boot properly in a multiboot os environment. So are you implying that you have a working C621 machine running with OC?? My next project was to move onto a C621 chipset with a W3175X or a W3265 (the latter in order to be able to move up to 1,5TB RAM, but still not decided yet). It sucks they won't pursue full functionality of NVRAM tbh, but at least they would consider contribute..

Perhaps "the way" on X299 and C621 chipsets is still indeed Clover. So far I have not experienced many issues with the current build, but like I said, I want to move forward.

The one thing I dono't understand is why vendors would lock their BIOS to 192GB RAM on their new Dominus and Aorus boards while for instance the W3175X data sheet clearly shows the CPU can handle up to 512GB RAM and the C621 chipset is capable of 1,5TB... For the €1000+ I think is way over the top. I think the Pro WS C621-64L SAGE/10G is a better choice.

Have you considered moving to Clover?

Hello everyone,

As some of you know, I have been lurking around to make the new X299X boards (Gigabyte) work, unsuccessful at it, but trying nevertheless.

On the hardware side these are the specs of the build:

Gigabyte Designare EX 10G
Intel i9 10900X
128GB DDR4 3200 Mhz Crucial Ballistix
1200W BeQuiet! PurePower
PNY 500GB NVMe
And other bits, but the important is here.

I am going to mention a few users who I know perhaps have some insight in the matter due to having GB boards or are experimenting the same issue @nmano @P1LGRIM @bingoc @Ellybz

I'm hoping we can get to a point where we can get actual working series of the new X299X boards, this will possibly help other users buying other vendors boards.

Hope some brilliant mind can come up with something.

Have a nice weekend guys.

EDIT: In order to correctly boot, this boards require a DSDT hot patch in .plist ACPI section. (I'm not the author of this patch, user 紫米 from the other forum should be credited for it).

Hello everyone.
Very interesting
Is there anyone with another X299X Motherboard working with the APCI patch mentioned ?
Thanks

What other board would you like to work with? Your SAGE 10G is fully compatible and one of the best ones around :)

I'm very pleased with the X299 SAGE/10G ....
Just curious about Mobo with Thunderbolt, ethernet 10G on board with support for 256 GB of RAM and dual GPUs for a smaller case.

I saw your mobo and the Asrock X299 Creator with maybe a simpler 10G implementation (not sure).
