OS X doesn't support 5.1-channel sound natively, sorry.
We're working on trying to get the optical out to work properly, as currently it only switches on, but there's no audio stream being transmitted.

You can try this, but I'm not sure it work 100% as I don't have any 5.1-channel speakers to test with, but I got sound by doing it that way at least and it might work for your audio codec as well.

Thank you very much "thelostswede".
I see red light from SPDIF OUT.
I'm not test audio stream. I don't have optical cable.
I will test it soon.
