I am planning to run moutain lion here are my specs
GIGABYTE H77M-D3H
Intel I5 3570k QUAD CORE
4GB DDR3 1600Mhz
Would this work? or i would need an z77-xd3h?

Both of those boards use a VIA VT2021 audio codec, which is only supported by the VoodooHDA driver. VoodooHDA is known to be unstable, and often causes kernel panics for many people. In addition, the GA-Z77X-D3H uses a VIA VL800 chip for some of its USB 3.0 ports, which isn't supported (the USB ports controlled by the Intel chipset will still work though).

An option if you wish to use one of these boards is to buy an external USB audio dongle, this thread lists several that work well.
