I am building a new machine presently and trying to determine what video card to get, the February guide says the 'GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 660 Ti' is a compatible video card, yet the 'GIGABYTE GV-N660OC-2GD GeForce GTX 660' (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125443) is not on the list of compatible cards.

The big deal though is the TI card is $299 while the non-ti one is $229 dollars, so that $70 dollars is a considerable savings. The GTX 660 version is also a 89% five egg reviewed video card at newegg.com and is also the best mid range card you can purchase from Maximumpc.com with a 9 Kick ass rating. But before choosing I would rather save the money but don't want to get burned with a card that doesn't work as a hackintosh.

If someone could be of assistance who has this card if it is compatible. Thank you.

Here is a thread that should be helpful (I just did a search on the forums for "GTX 660"):

http://www.tonymacx86.com/graphics/73081-testing-thread-geforce-gtx-660-a.html

To save you having to read through all that thread (tho it is a useful thread), I'll sumarise for you.

The 660 does not work straight out of the box like the 660ti does, however it is really easy to get working:

1) Build without the 660 installed

2) Get ML working using unibeast/multibeast and the internal HD3000/HD4000 graphics (assuming your processor is capable)

3) Download the Nvidia drivers: http://www.nvidia.com/object/macosx-304.00.05f02-driver.html

4) Switch off and install the 660.

5) Restart and your 660 will be working.

Cool, thanks for the info @defbref and @nobodynose. I found the forum post that nobodynose commented after I posted mine(a search didn't bring it up originally here, the reason for my post). Need to determine if I want to go with that way.

I'll add in further that I have that exact Gigabyte card, and the setup was exactly as previously described. It works beautifully.

Do all video ports work? Have you tried 3 or 4 monitors connected at once?

many app crash and freezing on 10.8.3 with gigabyte 660 oc.. probably im going to clean install 10.8.2.
update: already 10.8.3. i re-set os x video driver, with imac13,2 smbios no more issue at moment. chrome, ableton live work perfectly.
update: nope.... already have same issue. big file with ableton, crash at start. its not stable at this time:( going to clean install..10.8.2

Hey I have a questions of the gtx 660 non ti can you answer them please?
I want to build a hackintosh with this gpu and I want to ask you:

Is it a good GPU?
What brand you choose or what is better?
Do you have mavericks and does it works on it?

Yes
Gigabyte, but I don't think it really matters
Yes, note this thread is out of date now and the nvidia drivers are no longer required, it works out of the box for the latest versions of ML and Mavericks
