For anyone interested, I got this board working on a Z170 board from Gigabyte with the THB_C header. Both in OS X with Clover and in Windows.

They did need to send me a custom BIOS, but I hope this change will be released. Anyone, just a quick tip, wrote a bit more here:

(hope I am not breaking any rules posting the link, but seeing as I trawled through these great forums many times for Thunderbolt help this might be of use to somebody).

Here is a link to give a try, i still cant get my card to show up even after flashing this bios though! good luck

The options arent the same as the ones you listed to get it working, so if you manage it please let me know

Thanks.. I appreciate you sending the link. I tried it on my Board and that bios was not compatible. I have a UD3P vs your SLI. I will give gigabyte a call and see if they c give me a bios with the T-bolt options enabled.

I'm having this same issue, and am pretty pissed about it. The board is listed as compatible here (I have GA-X99-GAMING-5P):

There is no mention of removing Thunderbolt support on the BIOS update page here:

http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5281#bios

I realize that they may have had to axe support for the card and that the number of people using it is probably pretty small. However, there are clearly people who do use it and it's a slap in the face to those of us that do to not clearly indicate in the BIOS patch notes that the update removes support for it.

I think you should mail them.

My guess is, that this support was/is for a Thunderbolt 3 card, that they either haven't released yet or never will release.

I haven't tested one yet, but I assume it will work as well as the ASUS ThunderboltEX-II or the other Gigabyte motherboards with Thunderbolt as described here:

I know this card is new but not available here yet. I use Z170X-UD5 TH and have TB-3 working in Sierra 10.12.2
For x99-UD5-Wifi Gigabyte has custom firmware F23C so TH-2 can be adjusted.
I have it working with 10.11.6 on that board and I assume it will work with Sierra as well.

Ah, ok
I am preparing to build a mini itx using this one.
GA-H170N-WIFI
There is hope for a compatibility with GC-ALPINE RIDGE or similar other
Pcie or m.2 thunderbolt card?!

It worth to chose a better mini itx motherboard, or it's better go now with a cheap solution, and in next future change the motherboard?
You will have to chose a motherboard that is either Thunderbolt ready with a header on the motherboard for a Thunderbolt PCIe card or a motherboard with Thunderbolt built into the motherboard. The H170N does not have a a Thunderbolt header. Gigabyte's Thunderbolt 2 PCIe card described in the first post of this thread only works with certain Gigabyte X99 motherboards.

This topic is about "GC-Thunderbolt 2".
Do you use this card with Z170?

Yes I actually do and use it now on a Z170X-UD5 with BIOS F22.
Why you ask?
