Does anybody replace the installed Chimera Bootloader by Clover?
Is it possible for one how did it to tell me what i need to do?

Thx Rob

Yes I am running clover as my bootloader but I don't knot that I would recommend it, my boot up is slower now, pauses on BIOS screen then boots to clover boot loader screen, because I have a recovery partition (non Apple) it pauses on this screen for input on which partition to boot into, once I choose it boots quickly, but because I am using the apple wireless keyboard and mouse, I have to plug in a physical keyboard to boot.

Installing Clover did fix iMessage for me though.

Rather then installing clover onto your hard drive, there is a thread out there that explains how to install it onto a USB flash drive which is a safer method then what I did, and this is what I would suggest you do. I can't find the thread at the moment but if you search for it using 'imessage' you should find it.

Good luck.

Hi Ashman,

Thanks for the hint.
Just want to know i need to set something special for the mainboard to get it working correctly.

Br Robert

If you do, it should be in the instructions on how to get it to boot from a USB flash driver.

You are exactly right. I'd not realized I needed to do the updates. I in installed the Macbook Air 2.0. The 10.8.2 supplemental refused. Is it maybe already in my version of ML (12C3012)? I am very happy to report GTX650 is finally working perfectly with one display and one tv. No more blue screens! Still unable to get both GTX and HD 4000. I am using GraphicsEnabler=No and PCIRootUID=0 I'm not sure what the PCIRootUID=0 does.

Thanks.

JohnSRQ,

READ CAREFULLY the link to the thread I had sent you....it has everything you need to get it going for BOTH CARDS WORKING TOGETHER.

In total there are 4 graphics patches you must install in order for the card to work, plus a update for your org.chameleon.Boot.plist. First is the Multibeast Nvidia GT5xx Graphics Patch. Second is the Apple Supplemental 10.8.2 Update. Third is the graphics patch by Alfa which you must add to your setup called the Patched MacBook Air and MacBook Pro Update 2.0 which you must download from Alfa's website (not shown here but google hacksbyalfa). Lastly is the Nvidia Mac GEForce drivers > http://www.nvidia.com/object/macosx-270.00.00f01-driver.html.

Installation Procedure

1) Before you begin you must make sure your System Definition for the first three Apple patches is using the latest 2012 Macbook Pro and video memory size is 32MB with DVMT RAM set to Max in BIOS - otherwise it will not work. You can update the SystemDef with Multibeast under Customisation > System Definitions and select Macbook Pro 8,1. You can also select your Nvidia GT 5xx OpenGL selection (2nd option in Graphics under MB 5.1.3) here as well. Save and install the Nvidia Mac GEForce drivers.

2) Once that is accomplished you need to open Textedit and edit /Extras/org.chameleon.Boot.plist (which I have adjusted for your Nvidia GT 5xx card):

Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
<plist version="1.0">
<dict>
	<key>EthernetBuiltIn</key>
	<string>Yes</string>
	<key>GenerateCStates</key>
	<string>Yes</string>
	<key>GeneratePStates</key>
	<string>Yes</string>
	<key>GraphicsEnabler</key>
        <string>No</string>
	<key>Kernel</key>
	<string>mach_kernel</string>
	<key>Kernel Flags</key>
	<string>darkwake=0</string>
	<key>Legacy Logo</key>
	<string>Yes</string>
	<key>Timeout</key>
	<string>2</string>
	<key>UseKernelCache</key>
	<string>Yes</string>
	<key>device-properties</key>
	<string>7f0000000100000001000000730000000200000002010c00d041030a000000000101060000027fff04002c0000004100410050004c002c00690067002d0070006c006100740066006f0072006d002d006900640000000800000005006201140000006800640061002d0067006600780000000d0000006f6e626f6172642d31</string>
</dict>
</plist>

Save the file and then go to Applications > Utilities Disk Utility and run Repair Permissions under the First Aid tab on your OSX drive then reboot.

3) Once rebooted you should be able to apply the 10.8.2 Supplemental Update and also Alfa's Patched Macbook Air and Macbook Pro Update 2.0. Reboot afterwards.

4) If your system works after applying the patches you can revert your System Definition back to Mac Pro 5,1 using Multibeast (which is considered the best setting for your machine).

Middleman

Thank you for taking the time to write such precise step, by step instructions. I'll work on this as soon as my work schedule allows me to.

Just one question first to double check, you gave me this string:

<key>device-properties</key>
<string>7f0000000100000001000000730000000200000002010c00d041030a000000000101060000027fff04002c0000004100410050004c002c00690067002d0070006c006100740066006f0072006d002d006900640000000800000005006201140000006800640061002d0067006600780000000d0000006f6e626f6172642d31</string>
</dict>

Saying it's for the "Nvidia GT 5xx card". My card is a Nvidia GTX 650 . I the string the right one for this card too?

Thanks again.

Hi Middleman,

I have been following your reply to JohnSRQ as I had a few difficulties with the updated 10.8.2 Alfa guide.

I hope it's ok for me to ask you a few questions about it. I have a couple of Nvidia cards in my mobo. A gtx570 in the 1st x16 slot and a gt640 (fermi) in the 2nd x16 slot.

I installed ML with the HD4000 set as primary with the bios settings indicated. Then installed the 10.8.2 combo update, and Multibeast with the settings from Alfa's guide. Should I be using 5.1.3 or 5.2.1? I used 5.2.1 and then the patches in the order from your installation procedure making sure that my system definition was that of Macbook pro. You said make sure it was the latest 2012 MBP definition so as this was not in the multibeast I manually entered it as 9,2, however when i rebooted it showed it as an 8,1 macbook pro in system profiler.
I used the patch for fermi openCL <2gb in MultiBeast - is that correct?
The graphics driver install from your link said it was not necessary for my machine. Also this driver you linked to was a different one to the one that Alfa links to in his guide. I am not sure which one to use.
I edited the org.chameleon.Boot.plist. and included the device properties that you had offered to JohnSRQ - Not sure if that was relevant for me but as it said gt 5xx I thought it couldn't hurt. I ran the permissions fix and rebooted.
I carried on with the 10.8.2 supplemental and the patched MacBook Air and MacBook Pro Update 2.0 which completed successfully. after reboot I tested the primary sockets on all three gpu's and they all gave video output ( which is good).

Now I just need to disable the HD4000 and put the gtx570 back as primary in the bios. This is where I encounter problems. The way I had been trying it was to remove the graphics properties string from the org.chameleon.Boot.plist and to use GraphicsEnabler=Yes. This way would boot with the 570 and the 640 would be seen in system profiler but connecting the monitor would just result in no signal. Then re-plugging the monitor back into the 570 would result in no signal.

If I leave the intel graphics as primary and try to boot with the monitor connected to the 570 or 640 - without any boot info, it gets to login but I see a light grey screen instead of the user/password prompt.

I wonder if I should keep GraphicsEnabler as No and remove some of the string in the device properties that pertains to the HD4000 although I don't know what to remove.

Hope you can help me,

Thanks in advance.

Bonce

I found that after I completed this build I had sound issues, by chance when I installed Clover my system definitions were changed from iMac 12,2 to Mac Pro 3,1 and my sound issues were resolved. I had to recently rebuild my system, or clone it rather after my SSD died and this time I changed my system definitions to Mac Pro 3,1 and my sound is perfect, FYI.
