Oh damn, guess what I ordered? the
Intel® 600p 256 GB, Solid State Drive M.2, because it was on a sale.
Of course it has the NVMe 1.1protocol. Smells like refund and sending back..

As I've stated, Apple's implementation of NVMe breaks the industry standard. Only Apple can tell you if they have any intentions of changing this.
