Gigabyte B550 Vision D (Thunderbolt 3) + AMD Ryzen 7 3700X + AMD RX 5600 XT

Tried some terminal commands but none of those have worked unfortunately either. Also tried a different DisplayPort cable and made sure all the GPU connections were firmly in. Sadly no success.

Casey, would it still be a GPU issue if the same HEVC file from my iPhone plays back fine under Windows 11 booted in via OpenCanopy using the Vega 56 GPU? Maybe I will have to look for a 5600 XT.

Before considering a hardware change, I would recommend these (more convenient) options:
  • Install fresh copy of Monterey 12.5 on a spare SSD using the same EFI folder (just ensure that agdpmod=pikera is not used in boot arguments).
    • Then check if HEVC videos play back normally (i.e. no garbling)
  • If the videos are still garbled, then install fresh copy of Big Sur. Just erase the spare SSD you used above and install Big Sur.
    • Then check if HEVC videos play back normally.
If the videos are okay in Big Sur, but fail in Monterey, then it's time to consider a new GPU. The RX 5600 XT is no longer made, but we can use AMD RX 6600 XT instead (with agdpmod=pikera added to boot arguments).

So I reinstalled Monterey 12.5 - same issue
After that I wiped the SSD and reinstalled Big Sur latest release - unfortunately same issue

I have also tried using HDMI instead of DisplayPort and also unplugged any other GPU in the system. No luck.

Someone mentioned to disable AppleGFXHDA.kext as I had experienced a hard lock once when playing a video file similar to what they had gone through:

I tried disabling via Kext and also OpenCore>Kernel>Block in config.plist but no luck there either.

At this point its looking like it most likely is an issue with the GPU as I have tried nearly everything else. I will look and see if I can get a good condition used 5500 XT in the meanwhile.

Hi,

I try to create a Thunderbolt bridge connection with my triple boot ryzentosh (Monterey) and Thunderbolt flash with 33 and my MacBook M1 Monterey. Red connection is applied in network setup on two computer. When I boot on Linux (rocky 8.6) the bridge is Ok with laptop. Maybe Ethernet kext on Monterey is an issue ? Or Thunderbolt flash not accept the networking ? Many thanks for your help.

UPDATE 22/08
Everything works fine now ! Just downgrade to bios F13 my workstation and replace the Thunderbolt SSDT with the original one of hackindrom for B550 vision D with Bios F13. Now the pipe is very fast :)

Regarding the upcoming Asus X670(E) lineup, I'm particularly intrigued by these two boards:

The mini-ITX board comes with this breakout box or "hive" for audio and extra ports:

Both boards will fit inside an unreleased new compact (micro-ATX) case from Asus (AP201):

I'm interested to see what B650 boards come out later this year. Finger's crossed there'll be an ITX board with full fledged Thunderbolt 4! That MAY be enough to compel me to move on from my ATX B550 Vision D-P build, but probably only after a healthy price drop and hopefully by then DDR5 prices will also have come down at least a tad. Perhaps by then there will also be some more higher wattage SFX PSU options out there too. Wait and see mode for me!
