GC-ALPINE RIDGE in hands

Hi any luck / or instructions on how to get it working with an X99 motherboard - I have the x99 Ultra gaming board from Gigabyte, and I actually got a 5k ultrafine monitor working with full 60 hz and 32 bit color, but the usb/thunderbolt parts do not work, it is as if the alpine ridge card can somehow feed the dual display ports streams anyway but only by using resx and a lot of unplugging/plugging / adjustments for every boot. If I leave the ultrafine monitor plugged the system won't boot entirely into MacOS, I then have to disconnect it then boot/login with an ordinary hd/displayport monitor, then connect the 5k monitor and then tinker with resx to get it working. I'm guessing the key to getting it working properly is the get the thunderbolt/usb c parts working also.

Has anyone managed to get the USB-C ports on the LG 5K display to work with the GC-Alpine Ridge card installed? Mine appears to see the USB devices in IORegistryExplorer, but just spews the following to the console repeatedly:

Hi Tony, does your 5K ultrafine work with keyboard brightness control? On my X99 mackintosh I can only get the display it self working but not the usb c ports, and not the speakers, webcam and brightness control either.

No, brightness control doesn't work, nor do any of the ports.

I can see the additional USB ports in IORegistryExplorer (although they're attached to a different node than my internal USB ports).

Anyone in the US wants to buy this card can get it at Fry's. It is on back order but will ship May 22, 2017. It's only 59.99 with free shipping. Here is the link if anyone is interested.

I ordered a card on ebay from a seller in Germany and took about a month for it to arrive and payed 3 times as much. It works great and I can now use my Apple Thunderbolt display. I wish i would have waited for it. I placed an order for another card through fry's for another build. I am using the GA-Z170MX gaming 5 board.

@tonyarnold I'm using the card with a Thunderbolt Display, and I've seen very inconsistent behaviour with not only the usb ports, but also daisy chaining harddrives and etc.

I would like to know if anyone makes progress on this too!

but do you have 5K resolution working correctly?

Yes, 5k resolution has been working perfectly from the start. I've written a small app to handle changing the brightness using DDCCi, so that problem is solved too.

WOW!!!! that's really cool ... give me more details about it because it's been really almost 2 years that I didn't have the chance to have 5K working...

so you put both the two DP ports of your GPU card inside the IN ports of Alpine Ridge GC card and then ... you go out with a single USB-C connector to the monitor? what I read on the specs is that a single USB-C line gives a max output of 4K signal, not 5K...
