By default, OS X Mountain Lion cannot launch 3rd party non-Mac App Store apps. Remedy this by checking Allow From Anywhere in your System Preferences > Security settings. Hope this helps!

You can also ctrl-click and click open. It will remember to open this app normally the next time.

Tony why your website does not have all the guides in categories for easy use? Like Snow Leopard=Guides Mountain Lions=Guides etc.
 
"right-click -> open with installer" works, too and will remember the app
