Hi.

The parts are:
CPU: Intel S1155 Core i5 3570K 3.40Ghz Quad Core CPU $239.00
MB: Gigabyte S1155 MicroATX GA-Z77M-D3H Motherboard $109.00
RAM: DDR3 8GB (2x4G) Kingmax 1600MHz RAM Kit $59.00
HDD: 120GB OCZ 2.5" Agility 3 SATA 6Gb/s SSD Drive $129
Video: Galaxy Geforce 7900GS with Acer 1916W on VGA output.

Install was very tricky ))
1. Grey apple logo and crossed circle sign - option -v revealed "waiting for root device".
2. In install -> Disk utility - no drive apart from USB.
Fixes were:
- MB BIOS upgrade from F4 to F8
- Plug SSD in blue (3GB/s) port
- Disable XCHI in BIOS. Also SATA=AHCI, HPET=enabled
- KB and mouse in USB 2.0 ports, not USB 3.0
- On every boot press F12 and select the device, not EFI.device - every device there had EFI variant. So no EFI stuff to boot from.
3. Follow this guide http://legacy.tonymacx86.com/viewtopic.php?f=54&t=59052
4. In Multibeast I checked only User DSDT (with no files on desktop), Audio VoodooHDA latest and maoljsAtherosEthernet.
5. Graphics not worked, booting was only possible with GraphicsEnabler=No at Chimera prompt (red apple - press any key)
6. Booting with -v showed that native Geforce7xxx.kext was failing and making kernel panic.
7. Few days of reading about EFI strings, nvidia injectors, enablers and editing info.plists passed )) I didn't want any changes to native Lion sw.
8. What worked is booting in 32bit mode - native Lion Geforce7xxx drivers are 32bit. Type arch=i386 at Chimera boot. Then put it into /Extra/org.chameleon.boot.plist as permanent boot option.
9. CI/QE and S3 sleep (lights off), audio are working, geek bench 9872.

Later I'll make use of Intel HD4000 built in CPU, when I'll buy another monitor (one I have is VGA only).
And theoretical question to gurus: Chimera (Chameleon) bootloader emulates EFI Bios of real Mac's. But latest Gigabyte MBs do have EFI Bios. Maybe it may filled with correct data and work without bootloader? Just thinking :)

Questions're welcome!

May someone recommend proper Wifi card or dongle (PCIe card preferred)? My Atheros AR5007UG dongle is useless I reckon.

Will this build work in a similer fashion? It is also Z77

MB:MB GIGABYTE|GA-Z77-DS3H Z77 1155 R
CPU INTEL|CORE I5 3570K 3.4G 6M R[/TD]

Mobo and CPU is fine - most recommended in other guides. RAM and HDD are not an issue if it works )

Nvidia GeForce GTX260 - no idea, prob yes. Check the fresh Customac Guide 2012.

Update - hardware added and working out of the box (OOB):

1. Firewire card on Via VT6306. Works natively in Lion 10.7.4 after few reboots.
2. Blu Ray writer LG BH10LS30.
3. Geforce 7900GS changed to GT 520 Asus Silent GT520 http://www.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/NVIDIA_Series/ENGT520_SILENTDI1GD3LP/ Works OOB in 64bit (removed arch=i386 from /Extra/org.chameleon.boot.plist)

Happy as Steam's Couner Strike Source did not support Geforce 7 series.

To keep track of my build ))

1. Updated to ML 10.8.1 via xmove. 10.8.2 fails - will try later
2. iCloud, iMessage fail -
- Must enable EthernetBuiltIn in org.chameleon.Boot.plist (use Chameleon Wizard)
- delete NetworkInterfaces.plist, preferences.plist in /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/
- delete all interfaces in System Preferences / Network. Reboot. Enjoy ))
3. Got TP-Link PCI Express Wifi Adapter (TL-WDN4800) and disabled ethernet - lousy driver for Atheros in MultiBeast.
4. Tried to enable HD4000 along with GT520 dedicated card - no joy.

Thank you for keeping this up-to-date, I'm planning on buying a similar build:

Gigabyte GA-Z77M-D3H
Intel Core i3 3225 with HD4000
TP-Link TL-WDN4800

can you tell me what wattage you PSU is? And did 10.8.2 work out in the end?

thanks!
-Erik

Hi.

Case is Antec NSK 1380 with internal 350 W PSU.
No time to try 10.8.2 yet ))

ive read all over the place that motherboard has no issues withthe 3570k processor, and specifically said it was from tonymacx86.
