First, thanks for reading and providing critique/suggestions. I am not new to hackintoshing, but my prior experience has been with the NetBookInstaller community and building a dual boot Windows 7/OSX Dell Mini 10v, which works flawlessly. See my guide for this install here:
http://www.mydellmini.com/forum/del...-dual-booting-10v-windows-7-osx-10-6-2-a.html.

I am now interested in building a desktop hackintosh and have been lurking these forums for a few months. My proposed hardware list is below. I would appreciate comments on the suitability of this list given my objectives for this system:
-I absolutely must have sleep and wake from sleep running
-I do not need wireless access
-The system will not be used for gaming, video editing, or other heavy CPU and graphic tasks
-The system must be as quiet as possible (hence the passive GPU cooling)
-I am striving for a system that is very snappy and responsive to OS tasks
-I would like the ability to drive a 1080p LCD TV from the graphics card HDMI port

Looks like a nice setup, nicer than mine.

The 8400GS GPU is not going to cut it for high end games, but mine plays Portal fine at 960x600 (it was a little laggy at 1920x1200).

Report back if both digital ports work on that card at the same time as I would consider switching out my ASUS 8400GS for a silent dual digital output. I didn't see that one when building.

Thanks for the suggestions. Your system has sleep/wake working no problem? I don't ever play games, so that shouldn't be an issue. But I don't mind spending a little more for a future-proof GPU if you can recommend one that support dual displays OOB.

You might want to take a look at my silent build... the 9800 Silent Cell runs dual-displays OOB.

Thanks for the recommendation! Does your HDMI out work for video and sound?
Haven't tried sound, but video works with the included HDMI->DVI adapter, using my Samsung display (see sig).

Thanks. If you happen to note whether sound is output to that HDMI port (a problem I've read with other cards on the forum is video but no sound), that would be useful info. I visited your blog and poked around and couldn't find anything about that. If you're getting sound out then I will go with the Silent Cell. If not, I'll try my luck with the $39 card I reference.

i recommend this graphics card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... -_-Product
its really good for decent stuff, pretty good for gaming (not great) the sound works with this one. I personally tested it myself (on my previous built). Plus its free shipping :) Fully supported 64 bit.

Thanks for the suggestion. Since I'm aiming for a silent system, can you give me a sense for how quiet the fan on this card is?

Native HDMI is a no go with the 9800 silent cell from gigabyte.

Believe me i have tried a lot of methods but could not get it to work .

You can ise the HDMI>DVI adapter included with the card but my results are the following.

Using the adapter , and the HDMI port of the card and connecting it to the display via DVI i got full resolution.

Using a HDMI cable from the HDMI port of the card to the HDMI of my display = black screen and no signal.

Using the DVI port of the card with a DVI cable but connected to my display with the DVI>HDMI adapter to the HDMI port of my display = black screen and no signal.

I really don't know your needs but you can get dual displays with that card. But if native HDMI is needed i don't recommend it.

I also learned that DVI and HDMI are basically the same , the only difference is that HDMI carries audio and video while DVI only carries VIDEO.

As far as for audio i never could get it to work since i never could use the HDMI port on the display i tried with a couple of different displays also.

My 2 cents are go for a 5770 since people report that is working with native HDMI. and also it carries audio.

Good Luck

Shremi
