ethernet works but not at gigabit speed.

it did not work at gigabit at all until I set system preferences >> network >> advanced >> hardware tab >> config: manual and speed: 1000baseT

then about 10 percent of the time it sets to gigabit.
anyone else having this problem?
anyone know how to fix this?

how do I know it is gigabit you ask, because the switch shows green when gigabit.
my intel badaxe2 motherboards always connect at gigabit speed.

Have you tried using a different ethernet cable?

Have you tried using a different port on the switch?

Do you have access to a managed switch where you could see if there are errors being reported on the switch's port?

The likely root cause is a bad ethernet port on either the motherboard or on the switch or a bad ethernet cable.

I have tried different cables, but still same result.
I have tried different ports also with the same result.
It happens on all three GA-77Z-UP5 TH motherboards.
This happens in windows or os x.

Seems that if during the boot loader it flashes green for gigabit then the OS will turn on as gigabit, but if it flashes orange for 100mbit during boot loader than the OS will see only 100mbit.
Restarting once or twice gets it to go gigabit.

has anyone seen this or is everyone using wireless?

i am using an older Netgear GS608, anyone know if the switch could cause this?
