Hi,

I am considering building a new hack and after some research, these are the components that I've picked:

I picked this motherboard as it appears that the Wifi/BT card that comes with it can be swapped with the BCM card. Airdrop, Handoff etc are working on my current system and from what I'v read everything works with the BCM34360NG, is it correct?

Concerning the GPU, I think I'll go with an RX 5500 XT when they become available again, In the meantime I would use the IGPU or my good old 760 if possible.

My current rig is powered by a Seasonic X650 bought in 2014; would that be enough to power all components or should I buy a new one? I tried some simulators and it appears it would work bu t would like to double check

Thanks!

Your power supply should still work with the new system with the GTX 760.

Thanks! What if I upgrade (when possible) to an RX 5500 XT or an RX 5700 XT? How many watts should I need?
The i9 10850K is a 10 core CPU which consumes a lot of power when under stress. Do you plan to run any kind of software that will stress the CPU?

If you need to run software that stress the CPU often, you may need to consider a higher powered power supply (like 750W or higher) especially if you also want a higher power GPU like the 5700 XT.

Hi,

Not really, some gaming sometimes but besides that nothing that would stress it that much I think. I will not be able to use my old graphic card as it does not fit in the case I chose (changed from Define Nano S to Node 304).

I used an online PSU calculator which gave the following results :
The tool seem to say that a 650w PSU should be enough with these GPUs but I'd prefer to double check, better safe than sorry:)

Hi,

Still struggling with the PSU, I have tried several PSU watt calculators but they produce different results so I would really like to double check.

Here are the final components:

The processor's TDP is 125w and the graphic card 250w (AMD recommends 650w PSU with the RX 6800).

Will Seasonic's PX-650 be enough to power the build? PX-750 is not available anywhere and the PX-850 might be too much power for nothing.

Also concerning RAM, I chose 2666 as this is what's in the iMac but can I go higher like 2993?
I'm not planning to upgrade components or overclock down the road.

Thanks for the help!

Don't believe the TDP anymore. It does not mean what you think it means :

The i9 10850K can draw a maximum power of over 260W when under stress.

I use Kingston DDR4-2666 RAM sticks myself and they work well in my system. You can probably go for higher speed RAM (but check whether motherboard supports them first) but I don't think you will see a visible difference in performance. So if I were in your position I would just get 2666 as they are cheaper.

Thanks! So 650 should be enough and then I can use my existing PSU or should I look for a 750W? still not 100% sure
If you are certain you won't stress the CPU in any way (and I mean ANY), then the older PSU should be enough even with a more powerful graphics card. Otherwise I advise you to get a better PSU.
