Can i install from 10.8.5 to 10.9 directly from app updates on my hackintosh? without multibeast or any other software.

oh ok thank you for the info. another question and i would really apreciate the answer. I have an external HD 500G but i do have files on it such movies and music, can i still use as a bootable unibeast? or i just have to have a blank usb drive or a HDD
