I just bought a HP ENVY 17t-j100 Quad Edition Notebook PC. Here are the specs:

• Windows 8.1 64
• 4th generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4700MQ Processor
• Intel(R) HD Graphics
• 17.3-inch diagonal Full HD Anti-glare LED-backlit Display (1920 x 1080) Non touch
• 8GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
• 1TB 5400 rpm Hard Drive
• NO mSSD Hard Drive Acceleration Cache
• 6-Cell Lithium-Ion Battery
• SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support
• Backlit Keyboard
• HP TrueVision HD Webcam w/ integrated digital mic
• 802.11b/g/n 2x2 WLAN and Bluetooth(R) [2x2]

This is my first time hackintoshing anything, so I will need all the help I can get and I will be truly grateful! Can anyone tell me just by looking at the specs if A.) it is able to be hackintoshed B.) if so, which boot method I should use (my hack, chameleon, unibeast etc) C.) any problems I should look forward to? Thanks.

RehabMan thanks for that link. And my next thing is suppose everything goes well on the install. I don't really plan on using windows, but when I receive the laptop and turn it on for the first time what do I need to do? Do I need to activate windows? Can I boot mac as soon as I turn it on for the first time? If I want to use both Mac and windows, can I? What are the pros/cons of doing so? If during Mac installation I partition the whole HDD for mac can I revert back to windows if need be? Thanks.

Don't worry, "everything" will not go well. You will waste plenty of time making mistakes, starting over, learning from your mistakes in an effort to install OS X on a laptop.

If it is a new computer, you might want to verify that everything works before installing OS X.

Dual boot guide here: http://www.tonymacx86.com/multi-booting/96000-guide-dual-booting-mountain-lion-windows-8-a.html

Installing OS X usually requires repartitioning and thus re-installation of Windows. You should probably collect your product key for Windows before starting unless it is printed somewhere on your paperwork or the laptop itself. In the event of a re-install of Windows, you'll need it for activation.

Yikes lol! Well I ordered it yesterday from HP, and it'll arrive in about 3 weeks. I guess I can't do much else without it. I'll have the time to mess around with it at work, hopefully the patience too. Thanks for your help, I'll look over your guides. I was just trying to get as much knowledge about it without actually having the laptop yet.

When I get the laptop I'll boot windows and make sure everything is working. Is there anyway to check what model or brands each components are without actually opening up the computer? Thanks.

You can look at Windows Device Manager and any number of 3rd party utilities under Windows (HwInfo, AIDA64, CPU-Z, etc.)

You can also get a list from 'lspci -nn' in Linux Terminal.

Once you get OS X installed, you can use DPCIManager->PCI List.

So I just finally got my laptop and everything seems to be running fine! My USB doesn't come up in the boot manager list. It just says OS boot Manager & Boot from EFI File. And then I went to settings and restarted from USB drive and I get this message "the selected boot device failed" what am I doing wrong?

Did you disable Secure Boot and enable Legacy Boot in BIOS?
