Comments

I have been wanting to build a hackintosh for years since I first heard of it. My wife owned a 2007 MacBook Pro and it was getting aged even after increasing the RAM and putting in an SSD. We looked up the latest offerings from Apple and decided it wasn't worth selling a child to get a new one. I then brought up the idea of building a hackintosh. She agreed- as long as it functioned like a mac with no issues or problems! Well then... So I did some research on tonymacx86.com and decided to go with a recommended build. http://www.tonymacx86.com/buyersguide/july/2016 and settled on the CustoMac mATX build minus the graphics card (to be added later if needed).

I wanted to build it with some good specs and yet keep the cost down so after some research ended up choosing the hardware above. So far it has been rock solid stable even overclocked mildly to 4.2 GHz. Stress testing the CPU for an hour resulted in a max temp of 140 degrees F (ambient air temp of 85).

Installation Notes
After building the box and attempting to fire it up for the first time I got into a reboot cycle where the computer would power on all of the fans and lights then shut off after 4 seconds. then 2 seconds later it would start up again and repeat. Following troubleshooting tips I reseated the RAM, the CPU, checked the power supply etc and no dice. No input detected by the monitor. I removed and reinstalled everything- no dice. I replaced the motherboard- no dice. I replaced the power supply- still nothing! On a whim I decided to use the new power cord from the new power supply and BAM! - it worked perfectly and booted into the BIOS menu!! All that work for an apparently faulty power cord!

I followed the installation guide here for El Capitan: http://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/u...pitan-on-any-supported-intel-based-pc.172672/ and I used my old SSD connected to SATA0 and a HDMI cable connected to the above ASUS monitor.

I had no issues getting the system to start up with the recommended settings. However, Audio didn't work and some other issues so I went through and tweaked the BIOS settings and the UniBeast options

UEFI Settings

I've got Firmware F4 installed so if you have the same version yours may work like this:
1. To access BIOS/UEFI Setup, press and hold (or rapidly tap) Delete on a USB Keyboard while the system is booting up
2. Navigate to Save&Exit tab and Load Optimized Defaults
3. Under M.I.T. tab
a. I navigate to advanced frequency settings ->CPU Upgrade ->4.2Ghz (simple way to overclock- lets BIOS do all the settings)
b. Under M.I.T. Tab -> Extreme Memory Profile (X.H.P.) select Profile1
5. BIOS Features Tab
a.Fast Boot Disabled
b. Windows 8/10 Features -> Other OS
c. Storage Boot option control -> UEFI Only
d. Other PCI Device ROM Priority -> UEFI Only
6. Peripherals Tab
a. Initial Display Output ->PCIe 1 slot
b. Legacy USB Support -> Enabled
c. XHCI Hand-off ->Enabled
d. Port 60/64 emulation -> enabled
e. Now go to Super IO Configuration -> Serial Port 1 -> Disabled
7.Chipset Tab
a. Vt-d ->Disabled
b. Internal Graphics-> Auto
c. Audio Controller -> Enabled
8. Save and Exit- save the profile and then save and exit

MultiBeast Settings

Now of course I went to look at my settings and MultiBeast says the files are all corrupted- so I'll have to go off memory

1. Quick Start- UEFI Boot Mode
2. Drivers
a. Audio -> Realtek ALC1150 and 100 series Audio Selected
b. Disk -> 3rd party eSATA
c. Misc -> FakeSMC Plugins and HWMonitor selected
d. Network -> Atheros E220Ehternet v2.0.1 (I haven't actually tried to plug in an ethernet cable)
e. USB 7/8/9 series usb support (all ports work)
3. Bootloaders -> Clover v2.3K r3423 UEFI
4. Customize
a. Graphics config -> Intel HD530 (as I don't have a graphics card yet)
b. SSDT - nothing selected
c. System definition ->Mac Pro 3,1

build- I should have printed instead of just saving...
so far everything works except imessage doesnt seem to.

Benchmarks
General system benchmarks from Geekbench 3

First single core 32 bit result :3369, 11524
After overclocking to 4.2 ghz :3461, 13162

Update- 8-21-16 Added BIOS settings and MultiBeast options.

One interesting thing- bios shows my single 8 gig 2400 Mhz stick of ram correclty, but about this mac shows a 4 gig 3600 mhz stick of ram- and the system is only using 4 gig. Any ideas?

Yes, sound works perfectly- it took a few tries- I ended up select two options in multibeast- Audio -> Realtek ALC1150 and 100 series Audio Selected

Finally updated to Mojave directly from El Capitan.

Updated to BIOS 22f and copied all of my parameters above.

I had almost everything work on the below MultiBeast settings. Except WiFi. I installed the lilu.kext and ran the AirPortAtheros40 installer from insanelymac. That fixed my WiFi. I haven't tried iMessage or Siri, yet, but everything else seems to work now.
